BABCOCK, Joanne Elaine – of Clio, age 92, passed away peacefully to dwell in the Heavenly Realm on Tuesday, April 29, 2025, surrounded by her family, at Eden Fields Assisted Living in Standish. Funeral services will be held at 1PM Monday, May 5, 2025, at the O’Guinn Family Funeral Home in Clio. John Montney officiating. The family will receive visitors at the funeral home on Monday from 12PM until the time of service at 1PM. Burial to follow in Woodlawn Cemetery.
Joanne was born on February 20, 1933, in Flint Michigan, to the late Kenneth and Lucille (Hamburger) Wright. Joanne graduated from Flint Central High School where she excelled at English and enjoyed track. While in school, she met a young boy from Clio named Fred Babcock, who would become her dearest friend, devoted companion, and the love of her life. They were married on October 10, 1950, in Indiana and together raised two children, Debra Christine and Frederick Bradley. Joanne and Fred shared many joyful years filled with love and lasting memories before his passing on August 17, 2016. Throughout their life together, Joanne and Fred shared countless adventures. They enjoyed boating, fishing, and deer hunting—Joanne was the one who tracked the deer—as well as pheasant hunting. Their days were also filled with simpler joys like berry picking, garage sales, pipe organ conventions, antique car shows, and so much more.
If there were such a thing as a doctorate in homemaking, Joanne would have earned it with honors. She canned food, upholstered furniture, painted walls, glazed ceramics, tailored clothing, dress making, and crocheted beautiful quilts. Her talents didn’t stop there—she baked homemade bread and delicious pies, prepared unforgettable holiday feasts, and even learned belly dancing. Through it all, she remained a deeply caring and compassionate mother, pouring her heart into everything she did.
No one cherished family more deeply than Joanne. She devoted many years of her life to selfless service—first caring for her ailing son, then her elderly mother, and finally her beloved husband in their later years. Through it all, Joanne never complained. She met each challenge with quiet strength, love, and unwavering compassion. Her presence will be profoundly missed by her daughter, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and all who were blessed to be part of her loving family.
Left to cherish her memory are: Daughter, Debra Julian (Richard Negrinelli); Grandchildren: Heather Bell (Chris), Michelle Ososki (Aaron), James F. Julian (Heather Anne), and Fred M. Babcock; 6 great-grandchildren; Nephew, Steve Aurand (Anne). Joanne was also preceded in death by: Son, Fred B. Babcock; Sister, Donna Aurand. The family would like to express their deepest gratitude to the compassionate staff at Eden Fields Assisted Living, Compassus Hospice, Standish Hospital ER, Bay City Hospital ER, and Dr. Chris for their exceptional care and support. A very special thank you also goes to John and Mary Borden, and Adam and Adrienne Ikewood—Joanne could not have been blessed with more kind, thoughtful, and supportive neighbors.
May Joanne now rest in peace. Please sign our guestbook or share an online condolence with the family at www.oguinnfh.com.
