HARBIN,ERNEST “DON” – Of Flushing, age 98, died Saturday, August 13, 2022 at his residence.
Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Saturday, August 20, 2022 at St. Michael the Archangel Byzantine Catholic Church, 2333 North Elms Road, Flushing, Father Jim Batcha officiating.
Burial in New Calvary Catholic Cemetery.
Those desiring may make contributions to St. Michael the Archangel Byzantine Catholic Church or E.A.A. Chapter 77.
Ernest made a personal request for attendees at his funeral to not wear black, his favorite color was red.
Visitation 5 p.m. – 8 p.m. Friday, August 19, 2022 at the Swartz Funeral Home, 1225 West Hill Road. Mr. Harbin will be at the church from 10 a.m. Saturday until the time of the Mass.
Ernest was born in Saginaw, Michigan on February 29, 1924, the son of the late Ernest and Esther (Kregar) Harbin.
He graduated from Flint Tech High School in 1942.
He married Elizabeth "Betty" Hritz on May 25, 1946.
Ernest served in the U.S. Army Air Corps 5th Air Force in the South Pacific during World War II.
He was a member of E.A.A. Chapter 77, Aero R/C Club, I.M.A.A., Flint Police Benefit Association and the Fraternal Order of Police Lodge 126.
Mr. Harbin was a Sergeant with the City of Flint Police Department for almost 24 years, retiring in 1974.
Surviving are wife, Elizabeth "Betty";
5 children, David and wife Nancy of Davison,
Dennis and wife Patricia of Virginia,
Donald and wife Elizabeth of Flint,
Diane Harbin of Flint,
Deborah and husband Donald White of Durand;
7 grandchildren;
16 great-grandchildren;
many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Bruce.
