CHAPMAN, Shirley Deloris (Gustafson) – of Lapeer, age 90, passed away on Saturday, July 25, 2026, at Stonegate Health Campus, Lapeer. A Funeral Service will be held 1 PM Thursday, July 30, 2026 at Allen Funeral Home, 9136 Davison Road, Davison, MI 48423; Jim Beardsley officiating. Interment will take place following the service in Oregon Township Cemetery. The family will receive visitors from 11 AM until the time of the service on Thursday.
Shirley was born in Flushing, MI on August 27, 1935, daughter of the late Isabelle and Roy Gustafson. She married her “High School Sweetheart” Dale Chapman on June 16, 1956. Shirley and Dale lived life to its fullest. Shirley and Dale both hired into AC Spark Plug in 1955 together. In September of 1971 they began a business out of their garage selling snowmobiles which evolved into a successful dealership selling snowmobiles, boats, and campers. They did that as well as a continued career with AC Spark Plug. Shirley and Dale worked together tirelessly until 2016 when she retired from Chapman’s Sports Center.
Shirley was extremely competitive. She played all high school sports. Shirley was “State Champion” in the snowmobile racing circuit which she and Dale both participated in together. Shirley’s biggest passion was deer hunting. She was always out for that “Big Buck” showing up the guys, which she did quite often.
Shirley loved her family with all her heart. Her soft spot being her grandson, Michael. They were famous for their squirrel hunting adventures.
Shirley is survived by her loving husband of 70 years, Dale Chapman; daughter, Cindy Brown (Dave) of Mountain View, WY; son, Dale Chapman II (Tracey) of Lapeer; special love, grandson, Michael Chapman (Lauren) of Davison; sister, Barbara Ex of Millington; brother-in-law, Rod Chapman (Pam) of Columbiaville; as well as several nieces and nephews.
We all have experienced her “Special Brand of Love”, We will always cherish the time that we were all blessed to have with her.
