Lorraine Marie (Smith) Maier, age 79, beloved mother, sister, grandmother, aunt, and friend, passed away peacefully on Monday, May 9, 2022 alongside her loving family and friends at her home in East Tawas, Michigan. Lorraine was born on October 16, 1942, in Gladwin, Michigan to the late Evelyn L. (Murray) and John C. Smith. Lorraine’s family moved to Beecher Township in 1947 and she attended Beecher High School with the class of 1960. Lorraine married her husband and best friend, Tim “TJ” Maier on March 17, 1961. Tim and Lorraine purchased and remodeled Shaffer’s Bakery in Rogers City in 1972, adding a coffee shop, a truck route, and increased the employees from 4 to 16! Lorraine was the Bookkeeper, Accountant, and closed the bakery at the end of the day. They sold the bakery in 1982 and moved to Tennessee, where they resided for 3 years. The couple then moved back home to Michigan in 1985 and made their home in East Tawas, where they still currently live. Lorraine loved her church family at East Tawas Nazarene Church and has been a faithful member since 1986. Lorraine adored her family and always pursued to make them feel loved. Her favorite hobbies were gardening, landscaping and decorating her home. Lorraine truly loved cooking for her family and spent a lot of time cherishing moments with the people she loved. One of her favorite things to do with her family was canoeing on the Ausable River. Lorraine will forever be cherished and lovingly remembered by everyone who knew her! She is survived by her beloved husband Timothy J. Maier; 2 loving children, Timothy J. Maier II and his wife Mary Katheryn and their children Jack Maier and Katheryn “Katie” Maier, and Tami R. (Maier) Majority and her husband Bill Majority and their children, Brittany N. Majority, Brooke M. Majority, and Eric S. Majority; siblings, brother James and wife Sherry C. Smith and their children Brian Smith and Michelle (Rob) Swickard and their 2 children; brother David and wife Barbara Smith and their children Michael (Jennifer) Smith along with their daughter, and Christopher (Jessica) Smith; nieces and nephews, JoAnn and Rick Schatz along with their children Joshua (Mariah) Bauman and their 5 children and 1 granddaughter, Mark and Erica Bauman along with their 7 children, Matthew and Katie Bauman along with their 3 children, Fawn and Philip Butcher, John and Kera Smith along with their children, John (Meghan) Smith and their 4 children, Justin Smith, and Jordan Smith; and Jim Smith along with his children, Jamie Smith, Stepanie and Bradlee Peyton and their child, and Sean Smith; brother in law and children, David Maier and wife Joni and their children, Thomas (Taylor) Maier, and Michelle (John) Narhi and their son Wilhelm; sister in law, Deborah (Maier) Oller, her beloved partner Paul Gunser, and her son Declan Maier (Oller); uncle, Lester Smith; as well as her 18 grandchildren, 26 great great grandchildren, and 6 great great great grandchildren. Lorraine is preceded in death by her parents, Evelyn and John C Smith; brothers, Jack C. Smith and his wife Fran Smith; mother-in-law, Beatrice Maier; father-in-law, Edmond Maier, brother-in-law, Mike Maier. A celebration of Lorraine's life will be held on Saturday, May 21, 2022 at 11:00 AM at the East Tawas Church of the Nazarene with Pastor Jerry Wallace officiating.
