Myrtle Colleen Rosencrants Bingham (Mert), of Flushing, Michigan, age 81, died Tuesday, March 29, 2023, at Courtyard Manor in Swartz Creek. Visitation for her and her recently deceased husband, Freddie Roscoe Bingham (Fred) will be held from 11 a.m. - 2 p.m. Friday, April 14, 2023, at Rossell Funeral Home in Flushing, Michigan. Burial to follow at Flushing Cemetery. If desired memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital, Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer or the Genesee County Humane Society.
Mert was born in Flint, Michigan to Bertha and Owen Rosencrants on January 25, 1941. She graduated, as part of the last graduating class from Flint Technical High School in 1959. Attending Flint Tech was a family tradition. Mert married the love of her life, Freddie Roscoe Bingham on August 25, 1978. Mert loved her family fiercely, she made it her mission to host regular family gatherings and to be there for those she loved. She was famous for being the family worry warrior and neighborhood goodie provider. Mert loved to garden, can and cook; feeding her family and friends was her greatest joy! She also loved Christmas and set out to make memorable family Christmas’s her legacy. Her grandchildren and great grandchildren were precious to her, many memories were made when she would take them on her lap and would read to them in her animated way, sound effects and all. Mert and Fred were quite the pair, they spent 44 years as husband and wife and 13 years escorting travel groups all over the world, they had treasured times and made many friends.
Mert worked for Citizens Savings Bank for 32 years before retiring on February 1, 2002.
Mert is survived by children Kevin Hancock, Brigitte (Bob) Nielson, Scott Bingham, and Kristina (Douglas Withey) Burns; 9 grandchildren, Arron (Nelia) Hancock, Daniel (Aivril) Hancock, Sasha (Erik) Kildal, Dustin (Lauren League) Burns, Meghann (Brian) Cronk, Jennifer Hancock, Damien (Samantha) Bingham, Brianna (Justin Frasier) Reddy, and Katie (Zach Puckett) Hancock; 7 great-grandchildren and beloved cats, Patches and Batman. Mert is also survived by her niece, who was like a sister, Gail Makidon. Mert is preceded in death by husband Freddie Roscoe Bingham; parents, Bertha and H. Owen Rosencrants, siblings Harold Rosencrants, Mary Gray, Doris Lee, Earl Hammond and Lloyd Rosencrants. |
