Age: 92

Zelma Jean Albert Gaus, 92, of Davison, Michigan, passed peacefully at home, surrounded by her family on July 31, 2025 after a quick decline in health. Zelma was a loving and devoted wife, mother, and Oma to her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

She was born in Port Huron, Michigan on August 7, 1932, weighing just 3 lbs, to Henry and Edith (Weiss). Her grandparents were Carl and Theresa Weiss and Lewin and Amelia Albert.
Zelma attended Marysville Morton School through the 6th grade and for 7th – 9th grade she attended Garfield Junior High in Port Huron. She graduated from high school from Western Michigan College Academy in Kalamazoo, Michigan. Zelma trained and graduated from Borgess Hospital X -ray training in Kalamazoo. A career she enjoyed and talked about often. After staying at home when her children were young, Zelma returned to work first at Sterling Secret Service and then at Carman High School. She retired from the school district in 1993.
At the age of 13, Zelma accepted the Lord as her personal Savior during a youth service at the German Brotherhood prayer meeting. Her faith was firmly established from the teaching she received growing up in the Brotherhood. While a great cook, baker, and hostess, Zelma’s most steadfast quality was her prayer life. She was a prayer warrior, praying several times a day for her family and friends up until her final days. Zelma was active in the Gideon Auxiliary passing out Bibles in doctors’ offices and other places of business. She was a member of Faith Baptist Church in Davison, Michigan and attended Winkler Road Baptist Church in Fort Myers, Florida. She and her husband often hosted pastors, missionaries and traveling evangelists in their homes both in Davison and Fort Myers.

On February 7, 1954, Zelma married Ruben Benjamin Gaus and they were married 60 years before Ruben’s passing.

Her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren were her greatest joy. She is survived by her three children: Gregory James Gaus, Susan Gayle Will and Theresa (Terri) (Duane) Davis. Her grandchildren: Rebecca (Leon) Staal, David (Ali) Gaus, Geoffrey (Nina), John (Janelle) Will, Sara (Chad) Torrison, Calvin (Sarah) Davis, Margaret Davis, and Alex (Gray) Davis. Her great-grandchildren: Grayson Gaus, Ella Will, Liesl Staal, Heidi Will, Jules Staal, Lucy Torrison, Micah Gaus, Ezra Gaus, Calvary Torrison, Joel Gaus, Georgia Torrison and Daniel Gaus.

As an only child she was very close to her cousins, her brothers and sisters-in-law and many beloved nieces and nephews of the Gaus family.

Zelma was predeceased by her husband and her precious daughter-in-law Diane Lee Gaus.
