Martin Garza, Jr., age 77, of Clio, Michigan passed away on Saturday, June 24, 2023.
Martin was born in Austin, Texas to Martin Sr. and Dominga (Martinez) Garza. He was an amazing man, who enjoyed camping and doing yardwork. Martin was an excellent bowler, and earned many high scores over the years. He was a core member of the Mexican American Softball League in Flint, Michigan, who made a lasting impact on the players involved. Martin loved to share stories with his children, and he loved to talk and make friends with anyone he met.
Dancing was one of Martin's favorite pastimes, and his children have fond memories of him teaching them to dance as well. In 2008, after a long forty-three years, he retired from General Motors Truck and Bus. During his time at General Motors, he was also a dedicated UAW Local #598 member. He loved his loving wife of thirty-nine years, Martha, and they enjoyed going to the casino together. Martin loved his family very much, and he was always willing to help his children no matter what. Martin was proud of his forty-five year sobriety, and he would often recite the serenity prayer. Martin was a loving father with a big heart, and he will be dearly missed by his family, friends and all who knew him.
Martin leaves behind to cherish his memory wife, Martha; children Dominga, Oralia (Roman), Steven (Chrissy), Miranda, Dominic, Apoleo (Victoria), Monica (Joseph), Ramiro (Sarah), Enocencia, Frederico and Orlando (Lindy); thirty-eight grandchildren; twenty-eight great grandchildren; sister Linda (Barney); brothers Sam (Joan) and Mario (Karen); special sister in law Sophia Garza; and many nieces and nephews.
Martin is preceded in death by his son Martin Garza III, and great grandchild Colt.
A visitation for Martin will be held Wednesday, June 28, 2023 from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Reigle Funeral Home - 5501 W. Pierson Road, Flushing, MI, with a rosary service at 7:00 PM. A funeral mass for Martin will be held Thursday, June 29, 2023, at 11:00 AM at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church - 2316 W. Coldwater, Flint, MI, with visitation one hour prior. An interment for Martin will take place at Flint Memorial Park, Mount Morris, MI.
