Born: 4/25/1945
Died: 10/8/2023
Age: 78
Community: Bridgeport, MI

Charles (Chuck) George McLeod, age 78, of Bridgeport passed away at his home on October 8, 2023. Chuck was born the son of the late John and Stella (Ceeder) McLeod on April 25, 1945 in Saginaw. He was a Saginaw High graduate, class of 1963. Chuck attended Alpena Community College studying drafting and technical trades. He later served his Country in the U.S. Navy, on the USS Mount Katmai during the Vietnam War. In 2000, he retired from General Motors/Delphi after 30 years of service in various plants and on many production lines.
Chuck’s passion for trees and all things wood related led to the creation of McLeod Wood & Christmas Products in 1983. Over the next 40 years, in partnership with his wife Mickey, he built a successful business manufacturing hardwood flooring and continuing the grave blanket business his parents founded in 1955. His Scottish heritage was of great importance to him. He learned to play the bagpipes in his 30’s and taught his sons to play, as well. Many a family outing was spent at Highland Festivals watching his daughter compete in the dancing competitions and enjoying the stirring sound of massed bands.
Throughout his life, Chuck had a unique willingness to learn and try new things. He derived much pleasure from sharing his knowledge with others and particularly from mentoring men, young and old alike. His passion for building led to such projects as a total home remodel, a toboggan run, tree house, several cabins and countless pieces of furniture. He enjoyed tapping 200+ trees for maple syrup in the spring, making many dear friends in the process. Chuck was an avid waterfowl hunter in his younger days and observer in his later years. He also enjoyed time on the Saginaw Bay fishing for walleye. He was a member of the Bridgeport Gun Club for over 30 years. His handiwork is evident throughout the clubhouse.
Chuck is survived by his loving wife Michaelene (Woida), his children, Heather (William) Hart of Saginaw, Charles (Tonya) McLeod, Jr. of Clio, William (Mary) McLeod of Boca Raton, Florida; three grandchildren Skye Gates, John Palmer and Charles McLeod; his sisters Joyce (Wallace) Mentel of Augusta, Georgia, Bonnie (Don) Dinninger of Saginaw and his sister-in-law Sandra McLeod of Saginaw. Chuck also leaves behind many wonderful in-laws, nieces, nephews and friends. He was predeceased by his son, John Henry McLeod and his brother, John William McLeod, Jr.
Funeral service will take place on Monday, October 16, 2023 at 11am at St. Francis de Sales Parish, 3945 Williamson Rd., Bridgeport, Michigan. Rev.
