Richard was born on May 18, 1929, to William and Mary Walk in Flint, Michigan. After graduating from Flint Northern High School and General Motors Institute, he went on to work at General Motors, where he spent his entire career at Chevy V-8 Engine.
He served others with kindness and a jovial spirit of humility. He brought joy to everyone’s lives; whether it was in caring for his elderly father, baking for family and friends, or serving for the Catholic Services for Genesee County Jail Ministry. He lived out his faith by being an example of Christ’s mercy and love. He was a very active member of St. Robert Bellarmine Catholic Church in Flushing, where he sang in the choir, volunteered with the youth group, and belonged to the Knights of Columbus. He was also a Secular Franciscan, a member of the Ancient Order of Hibernians, the Blue Army World Apostolate of Fatima, and active with the St. Robert Seniors.
He was also a member of the Lions, the Optimist Club, and served as a Scoutmaster for the Boy Scouts. He spent his retirement years helping others by generously giving of himself to the community.
Richard was a dog lover through and through. His loyal dogs brought him companionship and joy throughout the years.
Football season was his favorite time of year. He had season tickets for the University of Michigan Wolverines and enjoyed driving to Ann Arbor with friends and family in maize and blue to cheer on the team in the “Big House.” (Go Blue!)
Our beloved Richard is predeceased by his parents, his brother Albert, and his sister Helen (David) Heakins. He is survived by his sister Mary (Edward) Behrman and many nieces and nephews. |
