Gilbert Wayne Davenport of Grand Blanc, MI, age 76, passed away on Friday, August 13th, 2021 at the Pines of Clarkston.
Funeral service will be held at 5 p.m. Wednesday, August 18, 2021 at Apostolic Church of Auburn Hills, 3655 North Squirrel Road, Auburn Hills, Pastor Steve Warman officiating.
Burial will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, August 19, 2021 at Evergreen Cemetery.
Those desiring may make contributions to the American Cancer Society.
Visitation 6 p.m. – 8 p.m. Tuesday at the Swartz Funeral Home, 1225 West Hill Road.
Visitation 4 p.m. – 5 p.m. Wednesday at the church.
Gilbert was always full of LIFE, LOVE and LAUGHTER.
He was born in Flint, MI on March 11, 1945 to George & Clorah Davenport
Gilbert married his 1st wife, Marian Sue Blasingame on September 4, 1965
They were married for 52 years before Sue passed in 2017
Gilbert & Sue’s family consists of sons:
Randy Davenport (Wife Sherry, Daughters Amanda & Alyssa)
Chris Davenport & Jeffrey Davenport
On October 15, 2018, Gilbert married Sandra Stolle at the Apostolic Church of Auburn Hills, MI.
Gilbert and Sandra were married for 2 years and 10 months before his passing.
Sandra’s family consists of:
Daughter Mindy Stolle (Daughters Makenna Kalosis, Reagan Kalosis & AJ Kalosis)
Son Brandon Stolle (Wife Traci, Daughters Madeline and Abigail)
Daughter Lindsey Day (Husband Roger, Daughter Marissa Conley & Son Jackson Day)
Gilbert was also preceded in death by his parents and his siblings Darrel Davenport, Bettie Tatum, Larry Davenport & Sharon Garrison.
Gilbert was a talented musician and artist.
A graduate of Kendall School of Design in 1967, Gilbert went on to utilize his artistic talents in several vocations including:
-Art Director of Word Aflame Publications, St. Louis, MO
-Project Manager for Buick Motor Division, Flint, MI
-Project Manager for the OnStar division of General Motors
-Lead Graphic Designer for Quality Pool Supply Company, Clio, MI
From his early teenage years, Gilbert felt a calling on his life to be a minister.
Gilbert’s ministerial tenure included:
-Associate pastor and choir director at New Life Church in Bridgeton, Missouri
-Associate pastor at the Pentecostals of Jonesboro in Jonesboro, Arkansas.
-Senior pastor of the 1st Pentecostal Church in Bay City, MI
-Lay pastor at the Apostolic Church of Christ in Pontiac, MI
-Associate pastor at Faith Tabernacle in Flint, MI
A loving, generous husband, a wonderful father, grandfather and uncle, Gilbert will be missed deeply by both his family and friends.
