CORNELL, Cecilia Ann – of Freeland, formerly Davison, MI, age 78, passed away Saturday, October 7, 2023. Cremation has taken place. A Memorial Mass will be celebrated 12 PM Friday, October 13, 2023 at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, 404 North Dayton Street, Davison, MI 48423; Rev. Fr. Dieudonné Ntakarutimana celebrant. The family will receive visitors 11 AM-12 PM Friday, October 13, 2023 at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association (www.alz.org) or the National Down Syndrome Society (www.ndss.org), in Cecilia’s memory.
Cecilia was born in Lapeer, MI on July 19, 1945, daughter of the late Bruce Duncan Cornell and Clara Alma (Morrison) Cornell. She was married to Ronald Lear, who preceded her in death. CeCe enjoyed a good game of Euchre, painting ceramics, crafts, reading books, writing short stories, singing, dancing, Elvis, Johnny Depp, traveling adventures, movies, crocheting and laughing with family and friends. She had many and varied jobs throughout her life. CeCe worked in automotive manufacturing, where she rose up to become a committee woman for the UAW. She was a teacher’s aide at the Tuscola County Intermediate School District, where she learned and taught sign language to her students. CeCe was a test driver at the GM proving grounds in Milford, MI (a job she was particularly proud of). She excelled through Michigan Corrections Officer training. CeCe also worked for large hardware stores like Lowe’s Home Improvement as a building materials specialist. She took cashier jobs and even worked for Darton Archery. Her family may recall that she worked as a park ranger at Round Lake Campground in National City, MI. CeCe invited family to come and camp, thus the beginning of the camping family reunion that continues 30+ years later. Everyone looked forward to visiting with and getting a good hug from Aunt CeCe.
Cecilia is survived by her daughters, Mary Margaret (Diener) Wideman and Michelle Marie (Diener) Jones (Troy), grandchildren, Sara (Wideman) Short (Ethan), Jeffrey Wideman (Miranda), Timothy David and Kemmer Jones, great granddaughter, Emily Wideman, brothers, Dennis (Iris) Cornell and Charles Cornell, sister, Edith Gorbett and many other loving family members and friends. She was preceded in death by her mother and father, brothers, Robert, Patrick, Michael, David and Vincent, and sister, Therese.
