Blankenship, Helen Lucille of Flint age 91 died Dec. 29, 2013 at Regency at Grand Blanc. Mass of Christian Burial will be held 11 am Friday, Jan. 3rd at St. John Vianney Catholic Church, 2415 Bagley St. Flint. Family will receive visitors from 12-8 pm Thursday, Jan. 2nd at Dodds Dumanois Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 901 Garland St., a 7 pm Rosary will be prayed Thursday evening. Family will also receive visitors from 10 am until time of service Friday at the church. Burial in Sunset Hills Cemetery. Fr. T. Firestone officiating. Helen was born June 26, 1922 in Lorain, OH, the daughter of Joseph and Nellie Beattie. She came to Flint in 1934 and graduated from St. Michaels High School and from St. Joseph School of Nursing Syracuse, NY. Helen was joined in marriage to Thomas P. Blankenship October 8, 1949 at St. John Vianney Catholic Church. She was a member of St. John Vianney church, St. John Altar Society and Handmaidens of the Altar and the Genesee Star Quilt Guild. Helen worked as a Registered Nurse in public health and worked for the City of Flint at St. Joseph and McLaren Hospitals, retiring from McLaren in 1995. Quilting and hand sewing gave her the greatest joy later in life. Helen is survived by children Mary G. (Allen) Pomerantz, Betsy (Denny) Camp, Ann (Duke) Stowe, Peter (Verna) Blankenship, Bill ( Pattie) Blankenship, Virginia (John) Hultquist, Matthew (Lisa) Blankenship, 19 grandchildren, 8 great grandchildren, sisters Joyce Weitzel and Rose Stevens. Helen was preceded in death by husband Thomas Nov. 27, 1996, sisters Betty Lancaster, Blanch Saunders and brother Jim Beattie. Memorials may be made to the St. John Vianney Memorial Fund.
