WAGNER, Ruth Marie – Of Grand Blanc, age 79, moved to her Heavenly home on Monday, December 13, 2021 at Symphony of Linden.
Visitation will take place at Swartz Funeral Home (1225 West Hill Road, Flint MI 48507). Friday, December 17, 2021 4:00pm-8:00pm.
Memorial Service will be held at Faith Lutheran Church (12534 Holly Rd. Grand Blanc, MI 48439), Pastor Joe Cottam officiating. Saturday, December 18, 2021 11:00am. Service will be preceded by one hour of visitation at 10:00am.
Burial at Great Lakes National Cemetery (4200 Belford Road, Holly MI 48442). Wednesday, December 22, 2021 at 1:00pm.
Ruth was born in Dayton, Washington on November 21, 1942. Her father was a Lutheran minister. Their family moved frequently; she lived in Idaho, North Dakota, Wyoming, Kansas, Nebraska, Oklahoma. Her mother was a farm girl from Kansas who had a one-year degree in teaching. Ruth graduated from Emporia High School (Emporia, Kansas) in 1960, after which she studied Parish Work/Business/Music at St. John's College in Winfield, Kansas (class of 1962).
Ruth moved to Michigan in 1962 and was a parish worker at Saint Paul Lutheran in Flint from that time until 1971, when she left to become a full-time homemaker.
Dougl and Ruth (Witte) were united in Holy Matrimony at Saint Paul Lutheran Church, Flint, on August 9, 1969; they were married nearly 48 years before his passing in 2017. They lived in Linden for 26 years before moving to Grand Blanc in 1998.
Ruth served as organist in various Lutheran churches in the area. She started the Love Singers women’s church choir in 1985 and led them until retiring in 2011. She continued to do creative work under the auspices of her church's parish nurse ministry. She started an e-mail prayer circle at church in November 2001 and wrote many prayers since then.
As an active member of Saint Paul Lutheran Church, Flint, Hope Lutheran Church, Linden and Faith Lutheran Church, Grand Blanc, Ruth served in numerous voluntary positions. Active church body participation was a core foundation of her everyday life.
Ruth is survived by her children: David (Tracey) Wagner of Fenton,
Richard (Wendy) Wagner of Fenton and Rebecca Wagner of Grand Blanc;
grandchildren: Amanda Wagner, Chloe Wagner, Dalton Wagner, Eric Wagner, Owen Wagner, Sophia Wagner;
great-grandchildren: Carson Wagner and Raelyn Wagner;
brothers: Stan (Karen) Witte of Stillwater OK, Roland (Sharon) Witte of Gretna LA;
sisters: Linda (Phil) Henke of Westfield IN, Lora (Neal) Buck of Tulsa OK;
many nieces and nephews;
and, so many dear friends and fellow church members.
Ruth was preceded in death by her husband, Douglas James Wagner; her parents, Louis and Gertrude Witte; her brother, Steve Witte.
