Joan C. Crane, age 96 of Flint, Michigan, went home to be with the Lord on Friday, February 10, 2023. Joan Claretta (Mengel) Crane was born on November 19, 1926 in Champaign, Illinois to the late Edward and Florence Mengel. Joan moved to Flint at the age of three and lived here all her life. She was a proud Flint Northern High School Graduate, class of 1946. On April 30, 1949, Joan married the love of her life Bobbie Crane at First Presbyterian Church. After High School, Joan worked at St. Joseph Hospital as a nurse’s aide until she had her first child. She happily left her career to be with her children as a full time mother of three. Joan was very active at First Presbyterian Church for many years. She taught Sunday school at the church for many years. But some may say, Joan’s ministry was personalizing greeting cards for her family and friends for every holiday. Showing others they were thought of and loved was very important to Joan. Joan was loved by many and will be deeply missed. She is survived by her sons, Bruce Crane and Bryan Crane, of Flint; son-in-law, Rich Brotemarkle, of Swartz Creek; granddaughter, Marcy Brotemarkle, of Indiana; 3 great grandchildren: Morgin (Harry) Zimmerman, of Indiana; Brett (Taylia) Trevillian, of Midland, Zakk Trevillian, of Indiana; 5 great-great grandchildren: Waylon, Dominck, Easton, Sawyer, Mavryk; special niece, Sally Harris; special nephews: Craig (Lois) Mengel, David (Patti) Firth; many, many other nieces and nephews; and special friends Karen and Bryan Berkey. She was preceded in death by her husband, Bobbie; daughter, Pam; grandson, Matt; great grandson, Kody; and siblings: Mary Jane (Joe) O’Neil, Jay (Betty) Mengel, Betty (Bob) Bedell, Dorothy (Cy) Firth. The family would like to send a special thank you to Ted, Randy and the whole team from Absolute Hospice for their love and care for Joan. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, February 15, 2023 from 2pm-8pm at Brown Funeral Home – 1480 E. Hill Road, Grand Blanc, Michigan. Funeral service will be held on Thursday, February 16, 2023 at 11am with one hour of visitation prior to the service at First Presbyterian Church – 746 S. Saginaw Street, Flint, Michigan. Interment will be at Sunset Hills Cemetery in Flint, Michigan. In lieu of flowers, those desiring may make memorial contributions to First Presbyterian Church in memory of Joan. |
