Peter Daniel Krupp

Born: 10/23/1930
Died: 10/23/2021
Age: 91
Community: New Lothrop, MI

Peter Daniel Krupp, lifelong resident of New Lothrop, passed away peacefully Oct. 23, his 91st birthday, at McLaren Hospital in Flint surrounded by his loving family. He was 91.

Pete, known as “Uncle Pete” to those who knew him best, was born Oct. 23, 1930, one of 10 children raised by his parents, Leo and Louise (Bovine) Krupp. He grew up on a farm and graduated from St. Michael’s High School of Maple Grove in 1948. A consummate family man, Pete married wife Jean McKone in 1950 at St. Michael’s Church of Maple Grove. Together, they had four daughters – Yvonne, Debbie, Shelley, and Denise.

A licensed plumber, Pete was a “jack of all trades and master of many.” He was employed as plant manager at Wolverine Soft Water in Burton for 55 years as well as serving as chief of police in Hazelton Township in New Lothrop for 25 years and a volunteer firefighter. Upon retirement, he continued to work at Grombir Transport right up to his death. But the thing he treasured most was spending time with friends and family.

Daughter Yvonne described Pete as “a social butterfly.”

“He just loved being around people,” she said. “Everyone in New Lothrop and the surrounding areas knew him and were drawn to him, wanting to listen to interesting stories about his life experiences.”

“Dad loved working in his garage and pole barn – it was his spot to hang out,” added daughter Denise. “His phone continuously rang off the hook. He was always talking to friends and neighbors, giving them advice or helping them find solutions for projects they were trying to complete.”

According to daughter Shelley, “there wasn’t anything Dad couldn’t fix or anything he couldn’t do.“

“There wasn’t a single day that would go by when someone wouldn’t call Dad and ask him a question about how to install a boiler, how to fix a water heater, where to get trenching done or some other question that he either knew the answer to or could find the answer. I don’t ever remember him using the word ‘can’t.’ He had incredible energy – his work ethic and positive spirit were unsurpassed.”

Pete spent many joyful summer weekends with his family at his beloved Sand Lake cottage as well as snowmobiling in the winter with wife Jean as members of the Sno-Goers Club. He also was an avid NASCAR fan - his loyalty to GM ran deep! And he loved aviation; he could identify any airplane in the sky, especially a B-52.

Pete was a devout Catholic who never missed Mass and said daily prayers and rosaries. He leaves to cherish his memory daughters Yvonne Vrable; Shelley Wyant (Rich Swenson) and Denise (Clark) Bentley; sister Barbara (Bob) Gizowski; son-in-law Rick Riess. He also looked forward to spending quality time with his 7 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren and adored his special friends, the “Thursday Night Boys” (Gary, Steve, Rick, Greg) and his Grombir family.

He was predeceased by his wife Jean; daughter Debbie Riess; son-in-law Carl Vrable; and infant son, Gerald Peter Krupp.

A Funeral Mass will be held at 11:00am on Friday, October 29, 2021 at St. Mary's Church of Albee. The family will receive friends at McGeehan Funeral Homes New Lothrop Chapel on Thursday, October 28th from 2:00 to 8:00pm with a Vigil service at 7:00pm and Rosary and 8:00pm.
