Veronica was born in Flint, MI, daughter of the late Joseph and Mary (Stimac) Zaher. She graduated from St. Mary School in Flint. On June 24, 1950, she and Joseph were married at St. Mary Catholic Church in Flint, MI. She devoted her life to God, Joseph and her family. Veronica was also a member of St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, Daughters of Isabella Regina Coeli #1095, working for 19 years, every Tuesday morning in the kitchen at the K of C Hall, Knights of Columbus Chorus Auxiliary, Altar Society, St. Patrick’s Guild and a 70-year member of the Croatian Fraternal Union of America. She especially loved holidays and time spent with family. Her joy was preparing meals, especially for the holidays and loving each and every one of her family while knowing her love was returned. God’s love flowed through Veronica with a gentle but powerful spirit that impacted everyone that knew her. She was preceded in death by her parents, Joseph and Mary Zaher; her brother, Joseph “Bud” (Charlene) Zaher and many other loving family and friends.
Joseph was born of Immigrant parents from Calabria, Italy; the son of Frank F. and Giovanna (Rossetti) Serra, in Flint, MI. He was a graduate of St. Mary School in Flint. He also attended the old Flint JC and G.M.I. Joseph worked as a Senior Designer for AC Spark Plug for 37 years. He proudly served his country with the U.S. Army during the Korean War, from October 1950 to November 1951. Joseph served in combat with the 1st Calvary Division and received the Combat Infantry Badge and two battle stars. Music was very important in his life, playing in a dance band and as a youngster, also the old Flint Groves Marching band and school orchestra at St. Mary’s. The interest in music led to his becoming a member of the Singing Knights. Joseph was a member of Davison Knights of Columbus Council #4090. He was a Past Grand Knight and later a District Deputy, overseeing five other K of C Councils in the Flint area. Joseph had many hobbies, such as his love of history, having many books of World War II and many other wars and their origins. The collection and study of lighthouses was another hobby, as well as woodworking and the making of furniture. The top hobby of course was golf, which he played for over 50 years. The computer was to take over his life in later years.
He was to do a lot of work, such as flyers and other promotions for the Singing Knights as well as newsletter editor for two K of C Councils and the Singing Knights. Joseph was preceded in death by his wife, Veronica Serra; parents, Frank and Giovanna Serra; brother, Fred Serra; 2 sisters, Mary (Paul) Burns and Minnie (Fred) Bussineau; many other loving family members and friends.
