DEFREESE, Darin – of Clio, age 60, died unexpectedly on Thursday, September 10, 2026, at his residence. Funeral service will be held at 1PM on Tuesday, September 15, 2026, at the O’Guinn Family Funeral Home in Clio. Pastor Jon Grimshaw officiating. Burial in Flint Memorial Park to follow. The family will receive visitors at the funeral home on Monday, September 14, 2026, from 4PM until 8PM and on Tuesday from 11AM until the time of service at 1PM. In lieu of flowers, those who desire may make memorial contributions to the Clio Fire Department or the Genesee County Animal Control.
Darin was born on February 7, 1966, in Flint, to the late Stanley and Carol (Dail) DeFreese. He graduated from Bendle High School with the class of 1984. Darin worked in medical transportation for over 20 years, most recently at MedStar. He was especially proud of his many years as a firefighter, serving 14 years with the Burton Fire Department and 21 years with the Clio Fire Department. He truly loved being a firefighter and had always dreamed of becoming a New York City firefighter. On October 10, 1998, Darin married his best friend, Renee Wilson, and together they shared 28 wonderful years of marriage. He was a faithful member of the former Davison Community Church and volunteered time at Genesee County Animal Care. Darin was an avid reader with a special interest in history and war, and he enjoyed building model planes, fire trucks, and he was a “die hard” U of M football fan. Darin was one of a kind and had a great sense of humor. He was always willing to put others before himself, loved his family deeply, and was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather. He will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved him.
Darin is forever remembered by: Wife, Renee; Daughter, Nicole (Roland) Hasani; Grandchildren: Luan, Elouise, Emmett, and Oliver; (surprise) Sister, Bethany (Rick) Khouri Townsend; Niece, Kristina DeFreese; Rescue dog and loving companion, Panini; many extended family members and wonderful friends. Darin was preceded in death by: Parents, Stanley and Carol; Brothers: DeWayne and Frank DeFreese. |
