James Coon, born on June 2, 1946, in Detroit, passed away on October 19, 2025, at the age of 79. Known for his humorous and loyal nature, James touched the lives of many with his warm personality and infectious laughter.
James served his country with honor as a member of the Army, participating in the Vietnam War from 1967 to 1969. Following his military service, he dedicated 40 years to a career at General Motors, Buick, retiring in 2004. Not one to remain idle, James continued to work at Flint Auto Auction from 2004 until 2022.
In 1972, James married Gale, with whom he shared a beautiful life filled with love and companionship. Together, they enjoyed numerous activities, including bowling, fishing, motorcycling, camping, and spending winters in Florida. Above all, James cherished the time spent with his family and friends, often entertaining them with his jokes.
James is survived by his devoted wife, Gale, and their children, Stacey (Mike) Coon-Ballard and Aaron (Staci) Coon. He leaves behind a legacy in his grandchildren, Zachary Coon, Brianna Coon, Hayden Ballard, Josie Ballard, Gavin Vance, Audra Wilcosh, and Alyssa Wilcosh. He is also survived by his half-brother, Glen Coon.
James was preceded in death by his parents, Warren and Gladys Coon, his brothers Warren Coon and David Coon, his brothers-in-law, Harvey Booth, Jerry Booth, and Bobby Booth, and his father-in-law and mother-in-law Harvey and Alma Booth.
James Coon will be remembered fondly by all who knew him for his generosity, humor, and unwavering loyalty to his loved ones.
A funeral visitation will be held on Thursday, October 23, 2025 from 4pm-8pm at Hill Funeral Home, located at 11723 S. Saginaw Street, Grand Blanc, MI 48439. A funeral service will be held on Friday, October 24, 2025 at 12pm with a visitation one hour prior. James will be laid to rest at Great Lakes National Cemetery following the service on Friday with military honors.
