John Rodney Thurlow, 82, lifelong Lapeer resident, died Friday March 25, 2022. He was born July 22, 1939 in Lapeer to parents Ray and Ada (DeLong) Thurlow. “Jack” married Sue M. Shepherd on August 8, 1960 in Davison.
Mr. Thurlow worked 27 years for GM truck and bus but his real career love, was building. He owned and operated John R. Thurlow Construction for many years. Jack loved his animals; his chickens, pigeons, farm critters and most importantly his loyal companion, Poop-poop (the dog). A few of his strongest passions were building bird feeders and gardening.
Jack is survived by his children: LeeAnna (Mike) Snipes of Lapeer, John (Loretta) Thurlow of North Branch, Jeanette Diffenderfer of Lapeer and Bonnie (Ben) Warren of Sarver, PA, grandchildren: Diane, Jennifer, Andrea, Heidi, Christopher, Ben, DeLany, John S., Jessica, Miranda, Emilee and Lee, x19 great-grandchildren, siblings: Bill (Doris) Thurlow, Bob Thurlow, Roberta Ferrett and Velma Dignan. He was preceded in death by his wife: Sue Thurlow (2008), son: John Davenport, brothers: Ron Thurlow, Glen (& Kay) Thurlow, dear brother-in-law: John Shepherd as well as his afore mentioned parents.
Mr. Thurlow’s visitation will be 1:00-5:00pm Sunday at Muir Brothers Funeral Home, Lapeer. His funeral will be 11:00am Monday March 28, 2022 at Muirs, officiated by friend, Pastor Bob Starr. The family will receive friends Monday from 10:00-11:00am. Burial will follow the service at Mt. Hope Cemetery.
