Dorothy was born on December 24, 1933, in Kennett, Missouri, the beloved daughter of the late William and Dora (McIntre) Dewitt. On October 15, 1952, she married the love of her life, Joe W. Crawford. Dorothy worked for 10 years at Atherton Schools in Burton, joyfully serving lunches to the children. She was affectionately known as “Mom” to many of the students whose lives she touched with her kindness and warm spirit. Dorothy was a longstanding member of Flint Baptist Temple, and for many years she taught Sunday School. She especially enjoyed working alongside Joe on outdoor chores at the homes they built in Columbiaville—memories that remain cherished by those who knew her. A talented and creative soul, Dorothy had a passion for crafting—especially crocheting and quilting. She found joy in the simple pleasures of life and always supported her husband with unwavering pride, eagerly sharing news of his latest accomplishments with anyone willing to listen.
Dorothy’s vibrant personality made her a joy to be around. She had a quick and ready laugh, and an exceptional ability to see the good in every situation. Her generous heart and wonderful sense of humor stayed with her to the very end. She will be deeply missed by her family, friends, and the compassionate staff at Hampton Manor in Burton. The family would like to give special thanks to the staff at Residential Hospice for their continuous care and support.
Dorothy is survived by her loving husband of 72 years, Joe; children: Debra (Edward) Secord, Janet (Mike O’Neil) Blake, Dennis (Patty) Crawford and Keith (Sandi) Crawford; nine grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren; two great-great grandchildren; brother-in-law, Mark Crawford; and many other loving family members and friends. She was preceded in death by her eight siblings, and granddaughter, Becky Walters.
