It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved Vivian Marie Whitmire of Flushing, who left this world peacefully on July 23, 2026, at Majestic Care in Flushing. Born on March 21, 1930, in Toledo, Ohio, Vivian was a beacon of warmth, kindness, and grace throughout her 96 years.
Vivian was the cherished daughter of Wilhelmina "Willie" Daffron and Alfred E. Winters, who predeceased her, along with her devoted husband, Robert "Pansy" Whitmire. She is survived by her loving children: son, Gary Whitmire, wife Lynne; son, David Whitmire, wife Debbie; and daughter, Susan (Whitmire) Prevost, husband Tony. Grandchildren are Tom Whitmire, Mike Whitmire, Brian Whitmire, Lisa Hibner, Tony Prevost, and Amy Klump. Vivian was also blessed with twelve great-grandchildren, who brought immense joy to her later years.
A proud graduate of Flint Northern High School in 1948, Vivian married her high school sweetheart, Bob, that same year on July 12. Together, they built a life filled with love and laughter, raising three beautiful children and sharing 55 wonderful years together until Bob's passing in 2004.
Vivian's career was marked by dedication and service. She began working at Stabler’s Pharmacy and later found her true calling at Sears, where she flourished for 30 years. Her roles included working in the cashier department in downtown Flint, and later in electrical, bedding and linens, carpets, furniture, curtains, and finally in men's suits.
Vivian was a vibrant, social woman who actively contributed to her community. She was a proud member of both the Flushing Methodist Church and the Flushing Presbyterian Church, and participated in the McLaren Auxiliary "Annie's," the American Business Women's Association, the Flushing Schools “SMILE Program" at Central Elementary, and the Flushing Senior Center. She loved taking trips with Ann’s Adventures including trips to Hawaii and Australia.
Her hobbies reflected her joyful spirit and love for others. She enjoyed playing cards with friends and family, knitting, crocheting, and playing dominos at the Senior Center. She enjoyed being with her family at her cabin at Canada Creek Ranch in Atlanta, Michigan. Vivian had a unique gift of making everyone around her feel comfortable and welcome with her outgoing personality.
A celebration of Vivian's life will be held on Friday, July 31, 2026, at at Caterer Family Funeral Home, located at 307 East Main St., Flushing. The family will welcome visitation from 11:00 am to 1:00pm when a celebration of Vivian’s life service will begin.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to the Flushing Area Senior Center in Vivian's memory.
The Whitmire family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the staff at Woodhaven Senior Community, Majestic Care Assisted Living, and A&D Hospice for their compassionate care and support during Vivian's final year.
Vivian's legacy of love and kindness will continue to live on in the hearts of all who were fortunate enough to know her. She will be deeply missed and fondly remembered by her family, friends, and community.
