FOOR, Richard R. “Dick” of Grand Blanc, died Friday, April 15 of congestive heart failure. He was 95 years old.
Dick was born on October 22, 1926 to Alvin and Lillian Foor in Chelsea, Michigan. He served in the Army Air Corp in 1945. In 1950 he received a BA degree from Albion College where he became a member of the Sigma Chi fraternity. While in the band at Albion, Dick met his wife, Patricia Johnston. They married in June of 1952. He went on to receive a MM from Michigan State University and a EdS from the University of Michigan.
Dick was a lifelong educator beginning his career at Hoover Schools. He spent many years at Atherton Schools as a band director, elementary principal, and a 5th grade teacher. He retired in 1988.
As a member of Farnumwood Presbyterian Church, Dick served as an Elder and interim choir director. He is currently a member of Kirkridge Presbyterian Church.
Dick was an active volunteer at Hurley Medical Center for 31 years. He and Pat enjoyed many overseas trips and singing in the Flint Symphony Chorus.
Dick is survived by his wife of 70 years, Pat, his daughters Pamela (Larry) Elder of Fenton and Judy Howland of Jackson, grandchildren, Ryan (Jill) White of Fenton and Catherine White of Indianapolis.
Visitation 2-6pm Thursday, April 21, 2022 at the Swartz Funeral Home, 1225 West Hill Road, Flint.
Visitation 10am Friday, April 22, 2022 at Kirkridge Presbyterian Church, 8070 S. Saginaw St., Grand Blanc, followed by a memorial service at 11am.
Memorial contributions may be made to Kirkridge Presbyterian Church or the Salvation Army.
