Robert “Ryan” McDonald, a beloved son, Father, Brother, and friend, passed away peacefully on July 31, 2025, at the age of 47 in Flint, Michigan. Born on March 11, 1978, in Lapeer, Michigan, Ryan was a bright light in the lives of those who knew him, leaving behind cherished memories that will last forever.
Ryan was the son of Norman and Barbara McDonald, who instilled in him the values of kindness, hard work, and community service. He graduated from Grand Blanc High School in 1998, where he formed friendships that would last a lifetime. His career at Meijer spanned an impressive 25 years, during which he became a familiar face to countless customers and coworkers. His warm smile and willingness to help others made a lasting impression on all who entered the store.
Ryan was not only a dedicated employee but also a passionate member of the community. He loved competing in the Special Olympics Area 13, where he showcased his athletic abilities and formed bonds with fellow athletes. His commitment to helping others extended beyond the realm of sports, as he frequently mowed lawns for his neighbors using his cherished John Deere, demonstrating his strong sense of community.
In addition to his community involvement, Ryan had a playful spirit. He enjoyed shooting airsoft guns and had amassed an impressive collection that delighted both him and his friends. His hobbies were a reflection of his vibrant personality, and he often shared these interests with his family and friends, creating wonderful memories together.
Ryan's family was at the center of his world. He is survived by his parents Norman and Barbara McDonald, son, Isaac, and daughter, Rylie, who were the pride of his life. He also leaves behind his brother, Norman and wife Ashley McDonald, along with nephews Caleb, Trevor, Tylor, Blake, and Dylan, who will remember their uncle with love and admiration. Aunt Kathie and uncle Fred Weston, aunt Robin and uncle Edward Clark, aunt Vicky Post, great aunt Betty Skidmore and many cousins. Ryan was preceded in death by his cherished grandparents Norman and Violet McDonald and Robert and Glenna Jean Weaver, who welcomed him into their arms.
Ryan's kindness and spirit touched the lives of many. He formed deep connections with his parents, who were his greatest supporters, and he built lasting friendships with the customers and coworkers at Meijer. Each interaction enriched his life and the lives of others, reminding us all of the importance of community and compassion. The family will hold a funeral service to honor Ryan’s life and legacy. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in his name to the Special Olympics, an organization that held a special place in his heart.
