Donald Albert Stevens "Don" or "Skip", fulfilled Christ's promise of Eternal Life for those who love Him. "Naked I came from my mother's womb and naked shall I return; the Lord gave and the Lord has taken away; blessed be the name of the Lord." (Job 1:21)
Donald died on Thursday, January 25, 2024, at McLaren-Flint. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 11 a.m. Wednesday, January 31, 2024, at St. Robert Bellarmine Catholic Church, 310 N. Cherry St. Flushing, Michigan. Fr. Jonathan Perrotta officiating. Burial will follow at Flushing Cemetery, next to his beloved wife, Dee Ann. Visitation will be 2-8 p.m. Tuesday at Rossell Funeral Home and 10 a.m. Wednesday at the church until the time of the Mass. A Rosary will be prayed 7 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
Donald was born March 31, 1950, the third son, fifth of seven children of Mary Margaret (Sovay) and Donald Edwin Stevens of Toledo Ohio. He married DeeAnn Anderson Grimes on December 28, 1985. They were the parents of Matthew Albert Stevens. Don’s parents, his wife of 29 years, his brother Richard with his wife Barbara, his sister Carol Leonard, his sister Marilyn Fischer, brother-in-law Tom Rood, and Joey the Chocolate Cocker, his best friend preceded him in death. He is survived by his son Matthew of Flushing, his sister Patricia Rood (Ohio) and his brothers Robert & Alicia (Ohio), John and Maria (North Carolina), his brothers-in-law Howard Fischer (Indiana), Tom Leonard (Michigan), and Mike and Linda Anderson (Michigan), his sisters-in-law, Robyn Owens (Michigan), Valerie & Steve Justice (Idaho), His good friend Robert E. Jones of Marion, OH, innumerable nephews and nieces, and Wilson the Wonder Dog, his new best friend.
Donald graduated from Toledo Central Catholic High School (CCHS) in 1968 and from the Graduate School of Social Work, Ohio State University in 1981. His career focused on serving God by serving others, via planning, development, implementing and administering human service programs. Among agencies he served were the Vision Center of Central Ohio, the Juvenile Probation Council, Mt. Carmel Medical Center, and Grant Hospital, all of Columbus Ohio, Memorial Hospital of Newark, Ohio, The University of Michigan Medical Center and Kellog Eye Center of Ann Arbor, Boysville of Michigan, Saint Anthony Village of Toledo, and the Visually Impaired Center of Flint.
Community Volunteer activities included planning, developing, and implementing the Flushing Christian Outreach Center and the Flushing Greif Share Program. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus at St. Robert Bellarmine Catholic Church, the CCHS Alumni Association, and the Flushing Senior Center. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given to The CCHS Class of 1968 Endowed Scholarship Fund, the Thomas Smith Memorial Foundation, the Flushing Senior Center, Victory Lane Camp, The Flushing Christian Outreach Center, the Westside Church group GriefShare Program (Formerly the Flushing United Methodist Church GriefShare Program), or a charity of the donor's choice. |
