Thomas Charles Welden, age 87 of Durand, Vernon Twp. passed away Friday, May 14, 2021 at McLaren Flint. The family will receive friends from 2:00 PM – 6:00 PM on Wednesday, May 19, 2021 at Watkins Brothers Funeral Homes, Durand Chapel, 501 N. Saginaw St., Durand, MI 48429. Private interment will take place at Great Lakes National Cemetery, Holly, MI.
Thomas was born May 19, 1933 in St. Ignace to the late Thomas and Mary Welden. He went on to serve his country bravely in the United States Navy on the USS Robinson in which he did a world tour. He was honorably discharged in April of 1960. Tom married Lillian and together they raised seven children until her passing. He loved to be outdoors; camping, playing softball and horseshoes. He was known for his strong work ethic, a trait he passed down to all his children. He enjoyed gardening and mowing his lawn and when he completed his own lawn you might even find him mowing the parks near his home. He was a member of the AM Vets, the VFW in Durand, and the Moose Lodge. He worked in the trucking industry his entire life and loved it!
Thomas is survived by his daughters; Char Chrzan, Tina (Ed) Smelko, Shelly Hittle, his sons; Thomas (Connie) Welden, George Welden, Chuck Welden, Jason (Sharon) Welden, his grandchildren; Chastity, Crystal, Jacob, Veronica, Tommy, Rob, Mikey, Justin, Brittany, Brock, and Kaylee, and many great-grandchildren and his puppy; Jilly. Thomas was preceded in death by his parents; Thomas and Mary Welden and the mother of his children; Lillian Welden.
