Mr. Earl J. Ridgell was born on August 24, 1932, in Drew County, Arkansas. He was the eighth child of James Weldon and Birdie (Gonder) Ridgell. At a young age, he accepted Christ at Strangers Rest A.M.E Church. He attended Drew County High School. Earl was among the many people who moved to Michigan from the South in the 1950’s to find work in the auto industry. In 1956, he landed a job with General Motors and married his sweetheart and childhood friend, Annie Jean Harris. They started a family and built a life together in Flint, later moving to Grand Blanc. Earl retired from Chevrolet in 1990 after 34 years of service. He enjoyed his family, friends, watching sports (especially the New York Yankees), playing cards, and gardening. He was a longtime member of Vernon Chapel A.M.E. Church. Earl’s love of his family, his commitment to hard work, and his sense of humor touched many people. He will be sorely missed. On Tuesday, September 7, 2021, Mr. Earl Ridgell departed this life into eternal rest at the age of 89.
