James John Horak
Age 91 of Owosso passed away Sunday, July 20, 2025 at home.
A Mass of Christian burial will be held at 11am on Friday, July 25, 2025 at St. Joseph Catholic Church with Fr. Michael O'Brien officiating. Burial will take place at St Paul Catholic Cemetery at a later date. The family will receive friends at Nelson-House Funeral Home on Thursday from 2pm- 8pm with a rosary prayed at 7pm.
Jim was born March 23, 1934 in Elsie, the son of Martin and Marie (Stupka) Horak.
He graduated from St. Paul High School, class of 1952.
Jim was an avid outdoorsman; he especially enjoyed hunting and was a member of Shiawassee Conservation Club. Jim took pride tending to his lawn and gardens and looked forward to playing euchre with family and friends. Most of all he loved hanging out with his family and time spent with them at the cabin in the U.P.
He married Kathryn "Katie" Smith in Owosso on October 23, 1954.
Jim retired from General Motors after 30 years of service.
He is survived by his wife Katie of 70 years; children Michael (Julie) Horak, Jamie (Kathy) Horak, Martin (Cindi) Horak, Thomas (Dawn) Horak and Janelle (Shad) Morgan; 7 granddaughters and 1 grandson; 12 great-grandchildren; other loving family and friends.
He was predeceased by his parents, granddaughter Katie Torstenson, sisters Jennie Ladiski, Mildred Stasa and Beatrice Beldyga and brother Joseph Horak.
Memorial contributions are suggested to St. Joseph Catholic Church or Shiawassee Conservation Club. |
