Mark Dennis Kotzian of Davison, Michigan, age 71, passed away September 14th, 2026, with his twin brother by his side.
A funeral Mass will be held Wednesday, September 23, 2026, at St. John's Catholic Church (404 N. Dayton St., Davison, MI 48423). Visitation will be held prior to the Mass starting at 12pm; the funeral service will begin at 1 pm. A luncheon will be held for all following the service at the First Baptist Church of Grand Blanc at 2:30 pm. Burial will take place at New Calvary Catholic Cemetery in Flint for the family only.
Visitation will be held the night before on Tuesday, September 22, 2026, from 1-8pm at Swartz Funeral Home (1225 W. Hill Rd, Flint, Michigan 48507). A rosary will be prayed at 7pm.
Mark was born in Flint, Michigan on June 7, 1955, part of a set of twins, to the late Frank & Marvel Verna Kotzian. The youngest of 6 siblings, Mark and his family were active in the Holy Redeemer community of Flint where he made many lifelong friends who he remained very close with to this day.
He graduated from Powers Catholic High School in 1973, where he played football & was a baritone in the school choir. He spent a lot of time in Alaska, working on the pipeline with his brothers and enjoying the beauty of nature. Mark earned his Bachelor’s degree in education from the University of Michigan - Flint.
He met his beautiful wife Michele while singing with her in the UM Flint Choir. They were married on Aug 18, 1979, at St. Christopher’s Episcopal Church in Flint. They built a beautiful life together, always finding time to make each other laugh while working hard to achieve their dreams. They welcomed their spunky son, Andrew, in 1984 & traveled halfway around the world to Chile in 1993 to bring home their sweet baby girl, JoAnna, when she was only 15 months old.
Mark was a lifelong fan of Notre Dame, an avid golfer and a talented musician at heart. He loved all genres of music, but especially loved the works of James Taylor, Cat Stevens & Marvin Gaye. He dedicated 28 years of his life as a hardworking General Motors man, working as a journeyman electrician at AC Spark Plug, GM, and Delphi. He was involved in the UAW (Local 651) and knew the importance of community. Above all else, Mark was kind, generous & funny.
He cherished his children, family and many lifelong friends - holding a special place in his heart for everyone he loved. He is survived by his son, Andrew (Brett Jackson) Kotzian; his daughter, JoAnna (Kevin Thorp) Kotzian; his siblings, John Kotzian, Clarissa Kotzian, Paul (Renee) Kotzian; Steve Barnes (Mary Goetz), and Lynn (Mitch) Carr; his nieces and nephews, Benjamin (Michelle) Kotzian, Anthony (Mara) Kotzian, Cari Kotzian-Lang; Natalie Barnes, Nick Barnes and Emmy Barnes Jameson Lang, Jack, Max, and Blakely Pringle, Hudson Barnes, Alexander Kotzian and Ian Kotzian;
and many special friends.
He was preceded in death by his wife Michele; his parents Frank and Marvel Verna Kotzian; his brother Michael Kotzian and sister Rita Kotzian; his in-laws Leonard & Joan Barnes.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association”
