BACKA, DEANNA– Of Grand Blanc, age 87, died Monday, August 11, 2025, at Hampton Manor Assisted Living.
Funeral service will be held at 11am Thursday, August 14, 2025, at the Swartz Funeral Home, 1225 West Hill Road, Flint. Father Roy Horning officiating.
Visitation will be from 3-8 Wednesday, August 13, 2025, at the funeral home.
Contributions may be made to Alzheimer’s Association and Genesee County Humane Society.
Entombment at New Calvary Catholic Cemetery.
Deanna was born in Flint, Michigan on October 4, 1937, the daughter of the late Harold and Rose (Fischer) Russell.
She was a lifelong resident of Grand Blanc and Flint. She married Marty Backa on April 30, 1960, at Sacred Heart. He preceded in death on December 8, 2013. She graduated from Flint, Northern High School in 1955 and earned an Associated degree in science from Mott in 1957.
She loved University of Michigan football and enjoyed the Detroit Tigers. She loved all animals, but dogs were her favorite.
Surviving are daughter, Teresa Keller; son Stephen D. Backa; two grandsons, Douglas (Amber) Keller and Michael (Kelsey) Keller; great grandsons, Jason, Wesley, Jaxen.
She was preceded in death by her sister, Beulah Flint and brother Dallas Russell.
