Bill was born on September 16, 1926, in Trenary, Michigan to the late Edward and Ruby (Germain) Williams.

After the bombing of Pearl Harbor on December 7, 1941, 16-year-old Bill lied about his age and joined the Navy, where he sailed the seven seas, played baseball in the pineapple fields of Hawaii, and fought battles in the Pacific that gave rise to the reason why we call his generation, the “Greatest.”

When the war ended, Bill finished High School and went on to attend Alma College where he graduated with a degree in education. He eventually worked to achieve a master’s degree in education from Michigan State University and went on to teach at Beecher and Flint School districts, where he taught driver’s education for 20 years but wants everyone to know that the guy that just cut you off on the way to the funeral was not HIS student.

While teaching at St. Charles High School, William met Judy Eakes and they married on December 20,1952. Bill and Judy raised five children and lived the suburban American dream. He was a member at Vienna Greens golf course, where he made many life-long friends and won many trophies. Despite his degree from MSU, Bill was an avid U of M fan, and many a Saturday was spent cheering and cursing at the tv, often in equal measure. (Those damn refs.) He liked hunting and fishing and camping and anything outdoorsy. Or indoorsy - Bill was also an avid reader and liked to tinker in his basement workshop or play cards or a game of cribbage, but mostly he enjoyed spending time with his family, who just lost the best man they will ever know and will miss him terribly.

Surviving are: his wife of 70 years, Judy Williams; children: Susan Kawa, Colleen (Russ) Edwards, Cheryl Almasy, Kathleen (Rick) Rogers, and Keith (Veronica) Williams; 11 grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren, and 2 great great grandchildren; and brother, George (Marilyn) Williams. He is preceded in passing by brothers Lawrence, Morris, and Ted; sisters Wyleta, June, and Vienna; and the best girl ever, his furry companion Winnie. The family would like to give a special thank you to Julie, Misty, and Crystal from Safe Hands Warm Hearts, and Erica from All American Home Health and Hospice for all their help and compassion in these final months. Angels do walk among us.
