LUNKAS, Virginia Patricia - of Clio, MI age 91, passed away peacefully on Monday, September 21, 2020 at Nicole’s Place in Lapeer, MI. Cremation has taken place. A Graveside Memorial Service will be held at New Calvary Catholic Cemetery in Flint, MI on a later date. Virginia was born in Flint, Michigan on March 23, 1929, the daughter of the late Joseph and Eva (Durkacy) Marki.
She married Stanley Joseph Lunkas at All Saints Catholic Church in 1948. Virginia worked as a nanny and at the Flint East Side Bakery before her marriage to Stanley. She worked part time at the Yankee Store in Flint and loved her Parish - Holy Rosary in Flint. She was a volunteer for many years for funeral lunches. She was also a member of the Blue Army and other prayer groups. Virginia held a very positive outlook on life and made friends easily. That outlook never changed after losing the ability to walk in 2013. She will always be remembered as a loved and wonderful wife and mother with a beautiful soul.
Virginia is survived by her children, Michael Lunkas of Otisville and Diane Lane of Clio; Michael’s late wife, Cheryl Hromek-Lunkas and her late son, David’s wife, Debra Fader were and are truly considered as her daughter’s; her sister, Sharon Best (Marki); sister-in-law, Mary Marki; special niece and nephew, Barbara and Phil Freebold; nieces, Yvonne Mayberry and Cora Wiecorek; neighbor and friend, David Dunn; numerous loved nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her, husband,
Stanley Lunkas; son, David Lunkas; sister, Eleanor Capp and husband, Joseph; brother, Donald Marki; brother-in-law, James Best; seven sister-in-laws; two brother-in-laws and many friends. Over the years she had many four-legged companions, the most recent and beloved was Baby.
Virginia’s legacy will be one of family, faith, friendship and love for one another.The family would like to thank all of Virginia’s care givers over the last year with special thanks to Hospice coordinator Pete.
