Helen Julia Gasparovic
Age 90 of Owosso passed away Friday, October 6, 2023 at Union Court in Chesaning, MI.
A Mass of Christian burial will be held 11am Thursday, October 12, 2023 am St Joseph Catholic Church with Fr Michael O’Brien officiating. Burial will follow at St. Paul Cemetery. The family will receive friends at Nelson-House Funeral Home on Wednesday 4pm- 6pm with Rosary prayed at 6pm.
Helen was born on May 12, 1933 in Owosso, the daughter of John and Katrina (Yellen) Gasparovic and raised in Owosso, Michigan. She lived on the family farm all her life. Helen was number nine out of ten children. She took care of her parents and a brother and sister until they passed. Helen milked cows, raised chickens and sold eggs and milk to add to the family income. Helen worked at Georgia Pacific for 27 years and retired in 1999. She has traveled with her brothers and sisters to California, Florida and Las Vegas where she loved to go to the casinos. Helen loved to go to polka dances when younger as well as work in the garden. She grew and canned tomatoes and her favorite flowers were hot pink. Helen taught her nieces and neighbors how to make kolache and nut rolls. She loved her cats and spoiled them with cut up hot dogs on top of their cat food. A proud Slovak, Helen spoke it fluently at home and wrote in Slovak for her parents to relatives in Slovakia. A dedicated Catholic, Helen spent her life caring for others as well as her animals. Helen also loved to take photographs of her cats, dogs and family. She always had a camera at family gatherings and special occasions.
Helen is predeceased by her brothers John, Joe, Frank and Paul Gasparovic; sisters Clara Gasparovic, Anna Dobrovic, Mary Fabian, Frances Dvorski and Agnnes Maybik.
The family would like to thank the Doctors, Nurses, and Social Workers of Careline Hospice for their care of Aunt Helen; especially Stephanie, Sherry and Quin. Also to all the staff at Union Court in Chesaning for the care and kindness to Aunt Helen.
Memorial contributions are suggested to St. Jude 's Research Hospital or St. Joseph Catholic Church. |
