Charles "Charlie" Riley, a cherished husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, passed away peacefully on February 15, 2025, in Clio, Michigan, at the age of 89. Born on October 11, 1935, in Flint, Michigan, Charlie lived a life marked by devotion to his family, his work, and his community.
Charlie's legacy is carried on by his beloved wife of over six decades, Janet, and their three sons, Randy (Gay) Riley, Larry (Pam) Riley, and Scott (Kimberly) Riley. He was a proud grandfather to seven grandchildren and doted on his 25 great-grandchildren, each of whom brought him immense joy. Charlie was preceded in death by his parents, who instilled in him the values of hard work and compassion that he lived by every day. He was also preceded in death by his sisters Helen and Mary, and son Tim.
A lifelong resident of the area, Charlie was deeply involved in his local community. He was a dedicated member of the Columbiaville United Methodist Church and the Methodist Men, where he shared his faith and fellowship with others. His commitment to service was further exemplified in his years as a Boy Scout Leader, guiding and mentoring young scouts, including his own sons. He was past member of the Columbiaville Rotary Club where he volunteered his time for community projects.
Charlie's professional life was marked by a remarkable 40-year career as an electrician at General Motors, from which he retired in 1991. His colleagues knew him as a reliable and skilled worker, whose expertise and dedication to his craft were second to none.
Beyond his work and community service, Charlie had a passion for life's simple pleasures. He was an avid bowler, a patient ice fisherman, and a skilled woodworker. His hands were rarely still, always creating or fixing something for those he loved. Country music filled his workshop, providing the soundtrack to countless hours of crafting and camaraderie.
Charles Riley's life was one well-lived, and he will be deeply missed by all who had the pleasure of walking alongside him on his journey.
