Derek was known to be quick-witted with jokes that never got old, had a wealth of useless knowledge not only with music and who sings the songs but also sports. He quoted movies lines too often. He would carry on conversations with his brothers and others with using movie lines where no one would know what they were talking about.

Music was a big part of his life, even though he couldn’t play one instrument, he did play air drums like no other. Derek loved quotes and music lyrics. One thing that he always said that sometimes you don’t choose the song or music…it chooses you. Listen to the lyrics and not just the song.

Sports was another thing that was a huge part of his life. Not only was he an exceptional athlete in several sports, but he was also a die-hard fan of UofM and Detroit Tigers. He rarely missed a game.

Derek was a devoted father. His daughter is his world and inspiration. He always said and truly showed that she was #1. He called/facetimed her every night to talk about their days. There have been times that he even drove across state to bring her blizzards. He made sure that he supported in everything she did. He was even known as the #1 Dance Dad.

Derek touched so many people with infectious smile, attitude, and laughter. His kindness and big heart helped so many people. Without no doubt, Derek will be missed.

Surviving are daughter, Emma; girlfriend, DeLynn Emerton and daughter Madison; best friend, Melissa Walker-Duncan, and wife Mary; 3 brothers, Sean and wife, Corrine, Kelsey and wife, Samantha, Lee and wife, Madeline; Nephew, Evan; Nieces, Rozelyn and Vivian; special family members, Vicky, Tim and Dalton Price, Don, Gerilyn, Donnie, Megan and Amber Gray, mother, Marda and Curtis Williams, Father, Carl and LeeAnn Sorenson, Grandmother, Patricia Sorenson, numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends who loved him dearly.
