Buryl Burgess
Age 92 of Owosso passed away Sunday, April 27, 2025 at his home in Florida surrounded by loving family.
Buryl was born on October 10, 1932, in Owosso, the son of Harold and Venus (Perry)Burgess.
He graduated from Owosso High School and General Motors Institute with a BS in Mechanical Engineering.
He worked for GM Saginaw Steering Gear until 1969 when he left to buy a machine shop, Danti Tool with a partner. A few years later, they bought Wright & Co.. In 1975, Buryl became the sole owner of Wright & Co. where he enjoyed designing and building special machines until he retired in 1997.
He loved fishing whenever he could. He mostly enjoyed his trips to Alaska, fishing for salmon, his favorite fish. When he wasn’t able to go fishing, he enjoyed playing a round of golf. He loved flying his airplane even though he had more than one exciting landing.
Buryl married Shirley (McCoy) Payne in Saginaw on September 27, 1980.
Buryl is survived by his children Christine (Paul) Frazier, Diane (Kirk) Kerekes, Denise Becar, and Dan (Sue) Burgess; stepchildren Debbie Cater, Penny Amidon (Dennis Ferrier), Timothy Payne, and Kip (Karen) McCoy; in addition to more than 50 grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great grandchildren.
He was predeceased by his loving wife Shirley, his parents, sisters Virginia Smith and Barb Sweeney-Vincent, brother Wayne Burgess, and stepson Thomas Payne.
Funeral services will be held at 11am on Saturday, May 17, 2025, at Nelson-House Funeral Home with Rev. Ray Strawser officiating. Burial will follow at Hillcrest Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Friday, May 16, 2025 from 4pm to 8pm. |
