McABOY, Delmore Franklin, Jr. - Age 94, of Swartz Creek, passed away, Sunday, May 15, 2022. Del’s life was defined by his love of God and family. Del was born in Huntington, WV, in 1928 to Delmore and Mary (Warner) McAboy. He was the oldest of seven, and he loved his parents and his brothers and sisters deeply. He married Violet in 1966 and remained deeply in love with his bride for 55 years, never missing an opportunity to tell her how beautiful she was or ask her for an extra kiss goodnight. While dementia took many things from Del, his love for Violet remained to the end.
Del loved the Bible and would read it for hours a day. He was a member of the Gideons, and he gave out hundreds of Gideon Bibles. He was proud of his service in the Korean War, serving in the military police during the peace talks in Panmunjom, and was awarded three bronze stars.
If the church doors were open, Del was there. He and Vi were longtime members of Bethel Park Free Methodist Church and Central Nazarene Church. They loved their winters in Florida at Light and Life Park and Light and Life and Life Free Methodist Church. Del was a member of the Beautification Committee at Light and Life, and no fire ants were safe from him.
Even though he couldn’t sing, Del loved music, so we’ll do lots of singing at his memorial service at 11:00 AM Wednesday, May 25, 2022, at Central Church of the Nazarene 1261 W. Bristol Rd., Flint. Visitation 10:00 AM-until the time of service Wednesday at Church. Interment at Great Lakes National Cemetery, Holly. Memorial contributions would be appreciated to The Gideons International or Covenant Hills Camp and Retreat Center, Otisville.
Del is survived by his wife, Violet; children, Elizabeth McAboy, and Tim (April) McAboy; grandchildren, Lily, Grace, Jack, and Joey; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; son Curt McAboy; siblings, Henrietta, Billy Lou, Lillian, Maryetta, David, and Marvin. Online tributes may be shared at www.sharpfuneralhomes.com.
The days are long, but the years are short. Be the person today you wish you’d been yesterday. Be nice. To God be the glory, great things He has done. |
