BROWN, Sr. Barry R. – Of Flint, age 82, died Wednesday, December 13, 2023 at his residence surrounded by his loving family.
Funeral service will be held 11:30 am Tuesday, December 19, at the Swartz Funeral Home, 1225 West Hill Road, Flint,
Father Georges Bidzogo officiating.
Burial in Great Lakes National Cemetery.
Visitation 1-4pm and 5-8pm Sunday, 1-4pm and 5-8pm Monday and 11am Tuesday until the time of the service at the funeral home. A 4th Degree Knights of Columbus Service will be held 6:30pm Monday evening a Rosary will be prayed 7pm Monday evening and a Fire Department Service will be held 7:30pm Monday evening at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions may be made to Holy Redeemer Catholic Church Knights of Columbus.
Barry was born in Flint, Michigan on August 9, 1941, the son of Raymond and Florence (Christianson) Brown. In November 1969, he married Angeline Flores in Flint, Michigan and she preceded him in death in 2008. In July, 2009 he married Virginia Williams in Flint, Michigan and she preceded him in death in 2022. Barry served in the United States Navy on the USS Kitty Hawk during the Vietnam War as a hospital medic. He retired from General Motors GM Flint Metal Center after 38 years as a General Supervisor. Barry was an avid outdoorsman and loved fishing and hunting. He also enjoyed golfing, woodworking, and movies. Barry was a member of Holy Redeemer Catholic Church where he was a 4th Degree Knight of Columbus, a past Grand Knight, served in the Welcome Ministry, and a regular attendee for Perpetual Adoration for a few decades. Barry was extremely devoted to his family and friends.
Surviving are children, Christine (Jamey Miller) Brown, Barry (Sue DeSisto) Brown Jr. and David (Jodie) Brown;
grandchildren, Sonya (Thomas) Garside, Jenna (Kyle) Ballance, Steven (Rebecca Foster) Paul, Jordan and Julia Brown, Witney (Logan Eaton) and Kaitlyn (Hunter Crawford) Brown;
great-grandchildren, Brianna Burgoon, Evelyn Ballance, Carter Ballance, and one on the way, Mason Paul and Bryce Eaton;
sister, Barbara Regan;
and many nieces, and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wives, Angeline in 2008 and Virginia in 2022.
