Burial in Flint Memorial Park Cemetery. James was born on December 8, 1939 in Tuscaloosa, Alabama to James Ester Sr. and Lillie May Miller-Ester who preceded him in death.

Growing up in Toledo, Ohio a mischievous and adventurous James often enjoyed flying a kite, playing football in the park with his buddies and fishing in the Maumee River. He was a great student and often dreamed of one day becoming a doctor. However, as a teenager he would leave home to join the United States Air Force.

Shortly after joining the Air Force, James met Albertine Moses in Sumter, South Carolina while serving as an Airman stationed at Shaw A.F.B. Sumter, South Carolina. In 1961, they would join in holy matrimony. After a brief stay in Sumter, James returned from reserve duty and the couple established residence in Flint, Michigan. Three sons were produced from this union; Kevin, Kenneth and Steven.

He began his career at General Motors Fisher Body Ternstedt Division before migrating to AC Spark Plug where he would become a Journeymen Tinsmith/ Maintenance and Construction Supervisor. James completed his associates/apprenticeship at Mott Community College in Flint, Michigan. He retired from GM after thirty-seven and a half years of service.

James loved bowling, golf, and reading. He had a great gift of using tools to build anything. He also enjoyed Friday Night Football games at Lake Orion High. He loved spending time with his grandchildren. James was known as a no non-sense man but his grandchildren always brought out his softer side. James was a faithful member of Antioch Missionary Baptist Church in Flint, Michigan.

He leaves to cherish his memories; his sister Roslyn Ester-Harrison, his brother Jerome Ester, two sons Kenneth Ester and Steven Ester, sisters-in-law; Earthlyn M. Brewer and Ronetta I. Moses, 10 grandchildren, 5 great grandchildren and many nieces, nephews and other family members.

James departed this life on December 18, 2021. He was preceded in death by his wife Albertine Ester, one son Kevin Ester, two sisters Mary Friend, Mildred Ester-Strozier, and two brothers Donald (Don) Ester and Nathaniel Ester.
