Janet Lee Owens (Craig), 88, of Linden (formerly of Grand Blanc), went home to be with the Lord and a legion of family and friends waiting for her on Friday, September 18, at Vicinia Gardens Assisted Living, Fenton.
A Memorial Service will be held at 11am on Tuesday, September 29, at Flint Central Church of the Nazarene, 1261 Bristol Road, where Pastor Jon Gildner will officiate. Visitation will begin at 10am, continuing until the time of the service at 11am.
Janet was born in Flint June 9, 1938, to the late Charles and Amnier (Romine) Craig, and grew up alongside siblings—Hilma (Joyce), Betty (Killian), Patricia (Burke), Robert Craig, and Jeff “Bud” Craig. She graduated Flint Central High School in 1957.
On April 26, 1957, Janet married Thomas Jay Owens, and together they were blessed with three children: Thomas Owens, Susan (Owens) Frownfelter, and Paul Owens. She also was a proud grandmother to Isabella Frownfelter, Janelle Owens, and Gillie Frownfelter.
Janet was heartbroken when Tom died suddenly in 2003 after 46 years of marriage. She met Gordon Taylor in a church grief class and they were married in 2009 until his death in 2018.
She was an active member of various churches in Flint area, most recently Flint Central Church of the Nazarene, until becoming homebound with assisted living four years ago. She also attended New Community Church of God, Trinity Assembly of God and Judson Baptist Church, often engaged in Bible studies, visitation ministries and evangelism efforts.
She is survived by her children: Thomas Owens of Flint, Susan (and David) Frownfelter of Flint, and Paul Owens of Seattle, WA; and by her grandchildren: Isabella (Thad) Kunkel of Portland, OR, Janelle (Aaron) Owens of Lansing, MI, and Gillie Frownfelter of Chicago, Ill.
Special thanks to her dear friends Diane Lansing and Lori Butler; and the amazing aides at Vicinia Gardens Assisted Living in Fenton. They have become like family to us all. Thanks also to the warmth of the hospice team who helped ease her transition.
Janet was preceded in death by husbands Thomas Owens and Gordon Taylor, and by her brother Robert and sisters Betty, Hilma, and Patricia. Jeff “Bud” Craig currently resides in Flint.
In honor of Janet’s life, contributions may be made in lieu of flowers to Young Life Genesee County—a way to carry forward her strong evangelistic heart of introducing young people to Jesus Christ. Contributions can also be made to the Benevolence Fund at Flint Central Church Of The Nazarene. |
