HAWK, Jill Joanne - Age 82, of Linden, passed away Friday, August 8, 2025. Cremation has taken place and a memorial service will be announced at a later date. Those desiring may make contributions to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital in Jill's name.
Jill was born February 22, 1943 in Flint, the daughter of James and Ialine (Gardner) Smith. She was a 1961 graduate of St. Agnes Catholic High School in Flint.
Jill was a woman of deep love, quiet strength, and timeless charm. She was married to her high school sweetheart, Dennis George Hawk, for nearly 62 wonderful years. They were united in marriage on August 17, 1963, at St. Agnes Catholic Church in Flint. Their love story began one evening at a gathering, where Dennis offered her a ride home; and the rest, as they say, was history.
Together, Jill and Dennis built a beautiful life and a strong, loving family. Jill's legacy lives on through her three sons: Tyler, Chris (Terri), and Shannon (Crystal). She was a proud and devoted grandmother to Tyler’s children-Jennifer, Alexis, and Zachary; Chris’s children-Jared, Justin (Sara), Trevor, and Joshua; and Shannon’s children-Taylor and Jordyn. Her joy only multiplied with the arrival of her great-grandchildren: Colt, Cooper, and Cohen.
Jill is also lovingly remembered by her sisters, Pamela and Kathryn, her nieces, Shana and Nola, all of whom held a special place in her heart. As well as her sister in laws and several nieces and nephews.
For nine years, Jill worked at Alpine Food Center in Linden, where she was beloved in the deli for her unforgettable creations; including her famous macaroni salad, baked beans, and mostaccioli. Her dishes brought comfort to many and left a lasting impression on all who had the pleasure of enjoying them.
Music was a language of love for Jill. She shared her passion for Bob Seger with her nieces and granddaughters; favorites like “You'll Accomp'ny Me” and “Old Time Rock and Roll” still echo in the hearts of those who loved her. To her grandchildren, she sang sweet, silly songs like “You Are My Sunshine” and “The Cooties and the Bed Bugs,” making memories they will treasure forever.
Jill had a gift for making the everyday feel special. Whether it was sharing laughter in the kitchen, keeping pantry items meticulously label-forward, or simply offering her steady presence, she taught by example how to care deeply and live kindly.
She will be dearly missed, lovingly remembered, and forever cherished by all who knew her.
She was preceded in death by her parents, James and Ialine Smith; and her brothers, James Smith, Jr., Raymond "Bucky" Smith and Scott Cable. Tributes may be shared at www.sharpfuneralhomes.com.
