Evelyn W. Lang, 93, died peacefully in Grand Blanc, Michigan surrounded by her children on September 30, 2022. She was born in Taylor, Michigan, the eldest daughter of George and Alma (Durand) Blanchard, and graduated salutatorian from Fordson High School. Evelyn attended Michigan State University as a home economics major where she met Phil, her devoted husband of 63 years. Her greatest love was being a wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.
She spent countless hours with her family cheering them on in every endeavor, baking, cooking special celebration and holiday feasts, canning, bird watching, golfing, playing cards and board games, and was a loyal and enthusiastic fan of the Detroit Tigers, and the MSU Spartans football and basketball teams.
Evelyn was also an exceptional artist who created countless beautiful things in many mediums. Her life-long passion for sewing started at a very early age. Evelyn’s one of a kind pieces - from baby blankets and unique toys to perfectly tailored clothing for everyone in the family at every age, inspired Halloween costumes, exquisite formal and wedding gowns, bridesmaid dresses, ultra-suede suit coats, quilts and stunning machine embroidery - will be treasured forever.
Evelyn volunteered for the clubs and teams in which all of her six children participated and for many years as the Northeast Michigan Tennis Association ranking chairperson, Buick Open PGA Championship scorekeeper chairperson, and for Genesys Regional Medical Center. Evie and Phil have been members of Warwick Hills Golf and Country Club since 1970.
Evelyn will be dearly missed by her loving children and grandchildren: Sue Lang – Jennifer (Matthew), Philip (Eileen), Amy (Steven); Ruth (Michael) Roeder – Eric (Hilary), Christopher (Lara), Kathryn (Kevin); Mary Jane (Dennis) Grunden – Kristen (Mark), Karen; James (Diana) Lang - Michelle (Jon), Gina (Max), Stefanie (Mitch); Sally (Richard) Brunkus – Jennifer, Lesley, Avery; Susan (Dana) Higgins – Daniel, Andrew; 18 great-grandchildren; sister Ruth O’Neill, nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, husband and eldest son Philip, Evelyn was predeceased by her sisters Marion Holmes and Loretta Gruber.
