January 23, 1930 - October 25, 2023

With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Russell George Mann, Jr., who died peacefully at home on October 25, 2023 at the age of 93. His beloved wife, Anne M. Mann, was at his side.

Russell George Mann, Jr. was born in Flint, Michigan on January 23, 1930 to Russell George Mann and Beatrice Lillian (Lunt) Mann. Russ attended Flint Central High School, joined the United States Navy, and served as a photographer, bugler, and drummer. He was a proud graduate of the University of Michigan and spent many Saturdays in the Big House cheering on the Wolverines.

In 1952, Russ married Gertrude Ann Kelly. Together, they had two children, Beatrice Marie and Russell George, III. They raised their children together in Grand Blanc, eventually welcoming three granddaughters into their lives. His wife, Gertie, passed away in 1998, and Russ was fortunate to find love again with Annie. They were married in 2000 and spent many beautiful years together.

Russ spent many years in the finance industry, beginning at Goodbody and Company in Flint, where he worked alongside his father, eventually rising to the position of Regional Vice-President at Merrill-Lynch in West Bloomfield. He was a gifted leader and inspired many people in the finance industry. Russ was a talented banjo player, and loved ragtime, barbershop quartets, and Dixieland Jazz tunes. He was a World War II history buff and absolutely loved tales of the Old West. Despite decades of disappointment, Russ was a devoted Detroit Lions fan. He was also a doting grandfather and great-grandfather.

He is survived by his wife, Anne M. Mann; his daughter Beatrice (Mann) Carpenter; his step-son Bill (Suzanne) Cason; his grandchildren Amanda (Joshua) Sauvie, Christina (Andrew) Nerreter, Jessica (Scott) Hornus, Robert (Amanda) Cason, Morgan Cason, and Stephanie (Jeff) Koreck; and his great-grandchildren Madilyn Carpenter-Sauvie, Lillian Sauvie, Carson Nerreter, Jacob Nerreter, Bobby Hornus, Evelyn Hornus, Jimmy Cason, Lincoln Cason, Dylan Koreck, and Evan Koreck. He is preceded in death by his parents, his wife Gertie Mann, his son-in-law Robert Carpenter, and his son Russel Mann III.

A visitation will be held at Hill Funeral Home in Grand Blanc at 10 am on Friday, October 27, 2023, followed by a memorial service at 11 am. Burial and military honors will take place at Sunset Hills Cemetery in Flushing following the service. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in his honor to the YMCA of Flint and the Make-A-Wish Foundation

Russ Mann will be deeply missed by all who knew him, and we will never forget his motto: “A promise made is a debt unpaid and the trail has its own stern code.
