FLEWELLING, Joseph Daniel – Of Swartz Creek, age 93, died peacefully at home, surrounded by his family on Thursday, February 18, 2021 at the age of 93.
Joseph will be cremated and a private graveside service will be held in the spring.
In lieu of flowers, please make memorial contributions to Ascension at Home Hospice or a charity of one’s choice.
Joseph was born on December 8, 1927, the son of Donald and Hazel Flewelling at the home where he was raised in Flint, Michigan.
Joe started driving a truck for Citizens Bank delivering interoffice mail at the age of 16 years. He later started working at Genesee Bank as a teller, and went on to become Vice President. Joe retired from NBD Bank in January of 1985.
Joe married Shirley Alexander in 1953 and they were married 44 years, until her death.
Upon Shirley’s death Joe married Mary Gilliland, who also preceded him in death.
Joe enjoyed riding motorcycles with a group of neighborhood buddies. He was also a member of the Flint Police Reserves back in the 70’s.
Dad would take on almost any home repair, car repair or lawn work that was necessary.
Dad liked to keep fit, jogging and walking every day, except Sunday’s for over 50 years. He was still taking daily walks of 2 miles per day through the age of 92.
Joe was a very good son, husband, father and grandfather, making sure we were all taken care of our entire lives.
Surviving are daughters, Candy and Lesa (Mike);
granddaughter, Tracy (Jeremy);
cousins, Bob (Irene), Jack (Wonice) and Robby (Iva).
We would like to give our thanks and gratitude to the doctors, nurses and staff at Ascension Genesys Hospital for the last year, along with in home care nurse, Lisa; physical therapist, Paulette and occupational therapist, Sarah, for their loving care.
Also we give our heartfelt thanks to the staff at Ascension at Home Hospice; including Dawn, Mary Beth, Marjorie, Bobbie Jo, Jalisa, Katie and Dan. We couldn’t have asked for more compassionate care.
Thank you also to dad’s neighbors, Bill and Ann for all their help through a difficult time.
