STARR, Barbara Jean (Allen) – of Davison, MI, age 74, passed away Saturday, August 5, 2023. Cremation has taken place. A Memorial Mass will be celebrated 1 PM Tuesday, August 15, 2023 at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, 404 North Dayton Street, Davison, MI 48423; Rev. Fr. Andrew A. Czajkowski celebrant. The family will receive visitors 12-1 PM Tuesday, August 15, 2023 at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Shriners Hospitals for Children or St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, in Barbara’s memory.
Barbara was born in Malden, Missouri on April 25, 1949, daughter of the late Samuel and Doris (Copeland/Gerow) Allen. She worked as an insurance agent during her professional career, and as a crossing guard for the Davison Community Schools during her retirement. Barb was a member of St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church where she also volunteered at the Family Center. She loved most of all being with her family and friends, and was everyone’s “Grandma Barb”. Barbara was a strong woman, who didn’t let anything slow her down. Even though she was diagnosed with Polio at the age of 5 and had to spend a year at the Shriners Hospital, she went on to be a high school cheerleader and homecoming princess. Barb was known for always having a Coca-Cola and having something sweet to eat. Everyone was always welcomed at “grandma’s house.” Barbara was known for having strong faith and would wish everyone a “blessed day.” She loved reading her bible every morning and we know that she is now without pain and in the loving arms of Jesus.
Barbara is survived by her beloved daughter, Roxanne Starr (wonderful son-in-law, Michael Perry) and cherished granddaughter, Krystal; best friend of over 40 years, Judy Rawson; 2 special cousins, Judy Santie and Robbie Copeland. She was preceded in death by her parents Samuel Allen and Doris Gerow; sister, Suzanne Kolch and brother, Steven Allen.
