Isabel Jane Rauh, 98, of Lapeer, passed on Dec 10, 2021. She was born May 26, 1923, in Lum, to Joseph and Marion (Goodrich) Houghtaling.
Isabel graduated from Lapeer High School in 1941 where she was the 1st chair violin in the orchestra. Shortly after graduating she married Chris O. Rauh on March 5, 1943. They were married for 70 years and raised 5 children on theirfarm. Besides working on the farm, she worked for the Lapeer Schools for many years. She started in the kitchen but would be known for her secretarial work at the bus garage making sure that all the children in the community made it to school.
Isabel was very active in the Trinity United Methodist Church. She worked in the office and coordinated many funeral dinners. You would see her in the kitchen with a smile working with all her best friends. She was a 4-H leader and involved in Lapeer County Extension. Many would remember her for her knitted baby blankets. She always had several different colors of blankets made ahead for future baby showers.
Isabel is survived by three of her children, Doug (Vicki) Rauh of Bainbridge Island, WA; Kathy (Rod) Bracy of Middleville, MI; Lyle Rauh (partner, Lynne Bublitz) of Lapeer, MI. Daughters-in-law, Ann Rauh of Mineral Springs, WV; and Pat Rauh of Lake Orion, MI. Her grandchildren, Sheryl Thompson, and Michael Rauh; Melissa Tabori; Christian, Candace, and Caryn Rauh; Terry Bowen Jr.; and Christine Rauh. 16 great-grandchildren, Bradi, Kyle and Katie Thompson; Lauren, and Hannah Adkins, and Regan Rauh; Gabrielle, and Jordan Tabori; Ava, Lexi, Haley, Brayden, and Raelyn Rauh; Tyler Whiting, Raymond, and Jonathan Kowalski; and a few great-greats. Also, her brother-in-law, Arthur Salisbury.
She was preceded in death by husband, Chris O. Rauh; her parents; her four siblings, Elva Ostrander, Bill Houghtaling, Norma Salisbury, and George Houghtaling; and two of her sons, Edwin Rauh and Dale Rauh.
Arrangements for cremation have been entrusted to Lynch & Sons Funeral Directors – Capstick Chapel in Lapeer. Memorial services for Isabel will take place at a later date.
