EATON, Rodney William – Of Flint, age 77, died Thursday, July 7, 2022 at his residence.
Funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, July 11, 2022 at the Swartz Funeral Home, 1225 West Hill Road
Burial in Sunset Hills Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be directed to Just for Kids, 5982 Westside Saginaw Road, Bay City, MI 48706.
Visitation 2 p.m. – 8 p.m. Sunday and 10 a.m. Monday until the time of the service at the funeral home.
Rodney was born in Flint, Michigan on November 10, 1944, the son of the late Rodney and Ruth (Burleigh) Eaton. Rod married Gloria Colonna on April 16, 1966 in Flint. Rod faced and overcame many challenges in life, including surviving polio at a young age. Rod often told the story of how his Mom’s love and care during this time helped him beat medical odds. This set a path for how he lived his life and his fighting spirit for others. Rod graduated from Flint Northern High School Class of 1962. He enjoyed playing cards, especially his poker nights, camping with the Miller family, hunting and loved spending time with his family and friends. Rod went on to become the Secretary Treasurer of Teamsters Local 332. He dedicated his career to the fair treatment of employees and equality in the work place. He was a fearless advocate for the blue collar workers and definitely had an impact in Flint.
Surviving are wife, Gloria (Colonna) Eaton;
Sons, Douglas (Amy) Eaton, Bill (Jennifer) Eaton;
daughters, Angela (John) Heiple and Kim (Brandon) Jackson;
grandchildren, Kayla, Garrett, Anthony, Logan, Olivia, Lucy, June, Addison and Elaina;
great-grandchildren, William, Mahtvei, Ryzik and Bryce;
sister, Betty (Danny) Harrington;
several nieces, nephews and many special friends.
He was preceded in death by his father, Rodney and mother Ruth Eaton Rose; his step-father, Orville Rose; sister, Suzie Camper; in-laws, Americo and Emma Colonna; brother-in-law, Tom Krehel and best friend, Rich Miller.
