LOAFMAN, PATRICK S. – Age 74, passed away peacefully at home among family on Saturday, February 11, 2023.
Funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday, February 14, 2023 at the Swartz Funeral Home, 1225 West Hill Road, Pastor Ron Emmerling officiating.
Burial in Flint Memorial Park with military honors under the auspices of the American Legion Post #404.
In lieu of flowers, please make donations to the American Legion Post in Harrison, Michigan or outside yard items as Pat took care of plants and flowers and RaE Ann has no clue on what to do with them.
Visitation 5 p.m. – 8 p.m. Monday and 11 a.m. Tuesday until the time of the service at the funeral home.
Patrick was born on February 16, 1948 in Flint, Michigan, the son of Robert and Cleo Loafman and Doris and Frank LeChota.
Pat proudly enlisted in the United States Army and served from November 18, 1966 until December 12, 1969. He served in the 25th Infantry Division “Tropic Lightning” in the Vietnam War from July, 1967 to July, 1968.
He received several awards and medals for expert rifle and machine gun shooter. On October 9, 1968 he received the Bronze Start Medal with “V” device for heroism in the ground combat operation against hostile force on February 3, 1968. He was so proud to have served as a guard in the Interment Services for Dwight D. Eisenhower on April 2, 1969.
He met his wife RaE Ann in October, 1978 and they were married on May 17, 1984. They spent 45 years together and married 39 years. They shared 6 children; 11 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren together.
They enjoyed camping, fishing, going to the casino and just hanging out together at home.
Pat loved old Westerns and would watch them over and over. He loved to deer hunt with his lifelong friend of 72 years, Dave Hadden; his brother, TJ and one of his greatest joys, his son, David. David and Pat shared the same birthdate and the bond they had was unbreakable.
In Pat’s later years TJ became his hero. Pat was unable to do many things around his home and TJ stepped in to do them for him.
Pat was a member of the Harrison, Michigan American Legion Post #404. He belonged to the Sons of the American Legion, The American Legion Riders and served in the Honor Guards.
He served as the 2nd vice and 1st vice and as Commander the past 5 years with honor. In his last couple years as Commander, his illness made it harder for him to do as much as he wanted, so he spent time at home working in his yard.
He loved to cook, but finally had to turn that job over to RaE Ann. He planned to live another 20 years with RaE Ann, but God had a different plan. So now his family in Heaven is rejoicing in his arrival and he is no longer in pain. Pat fought this war strong and he never gave up. He touched so many people’s lives, and will never be forgotten. He was always RaE Ann’s greatest love and he will be waiting with open arms to greet her when she joins him in Heaven one day.
Pat is survived by his wife, RaE Ann Loafman of Gladwin, MI;
children, Melissa Martin, Angie and Bill Agius, Robert and Robyn Martin, Stacie and David Wale, Courtney and Jason Bradley and Kirsten Loafman;
grandchildren, Melinda, Rachel, Robert, Heather Ann, Marie, Brenden, Cole, Seth, Ashley, Robert Jr. and Connor;
great-grandchildren, Jonah, Ella Mae, Brenlee, Austin, Alivia, Annalee, Audrey, Phoebe and Elvis;
brothers and sisters, TJ and Kelly Loafman, Gary and Beth Loafman, Laura Lee Strebig, Thersa and Steve Collier and Barbara Loafman.
He was loved by many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends, including his lifelong best friends, Bill Hill and Dave Hadden, friends, Ed L’s, Freddie, Paul, Timmy and so many more.
He was preceded in death by his father and mother, Robert and Cleo Loafman and Doris and Frank LeChota and his brother, Mike Loafman.
