GUNTHER, Erard; age, 71 of Flint. It is with deep sadness that we announce the unexpected
passing of Erard Gunther, owner of Gunther’s Locksmith on January 18, 2022, at age 71.
He is survived by his wife Adelheid (Riske) Gunther, children Ronald (Liane) Gunther,
Martin (Melissa) Gunther and Andy Gunther, grandchildren (Alexis, Katelyn, Ethan, Alaina,
Levi and Amrae), brothers Carlos (Jutta) Gunther, Louis (Margarita) Gunther, nephew Nelson Hanke,
as well as many loving in laws, nieces, nephews and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents
Ewald and Hulda (Schmidt) Gunther and sister Ursula Gunther.
Erard was born September 10, 1950 in Leonardo N. Alem, Argentina and moved to Kitchner,
Canada in 1970. He met his wife Adelheid at Festversammlung, they were married August 11,
1973 and resided in Flint. They celebrated their 48th wedding anniversary in 2021.
Erard served the Flint and surrounding communities for over 35 years through Gunther’s Sales
and Services and Gunther’s Locksmith as owner and operator. He was a man of little words but a
huge heart. He lived his life well by serving others; whether it was repairing a small engine,
fixing a bike, cutting a key, unlocking your vehicle or serving in his church. He was the first
person his sons called to ask a question about something mechanical or just to get his opinion
on the weather. You could always find Erard outside working on something, from fixing a
vehicle, working on the yard: he loved to mow and would spend hours mowing the lawn, the
grass didn’t grow fast enough. He loved spending time with his children and grandchildren
doing stuff they enjoyed from fishing, hunting, camping, boating and watching sports, just to be
with them and soak it all in.
His family finds peace knowing he is now with his Lord and Savior and look forward to the day
they will all be reunited.
A memorial service to honor Erard’s life will be held at Flint Central Church of the Nazarene on
Saturday, January 29th at 11 AM with a time of visitation 1 hour prior. Pastor Jon Gildner will be
officiating. Funeral arrangements are by Sharp Funeral Home in Swartz Creek.
