McINTOSH, Thedore R. (Ted) - age 73 of Flushing, died unexpectedly at home on Tuesday, December 28, 2021. He will be inurned in the Walk of Memories at Flint Memorial Park Cemetery. Per his previously expressed wishes, cremation has taken place. Due to covid concerns, a celebration of his life will be planned in the summer.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to: St. Jude’s Hospital or Genesee County Humane Society.
Ted was born December 8, 1948 in Flint, the son of Thedore J. and Dorothy McIntosh. He was second oldest of 6 siblings. He graduated from Northwestern High School and earned a bachelor’s degree from University of Michigan-Flint. He lived his entire life in the Flint-Flushing area. He retired from the City of Flint Finance department after 25 years in 1995, after which he worked as a transportation aide for Genesee Intermediate School District, retiring a second time in 2015.
He married the love of his life, Kathleen Smith, in 1984, settling together in Flushing with his stepsons, Steven and David McGovern during their formative years. He participated in Flushing Band Boosters, working in fund-raising, activity planning and chaperoning the boys and their bandmates in their travels to band competitions.
His presence in social situations was always highlighted by raucous laughter, where he enjoyed amusing friends, family and even strangers with his quirky sense of humor.
Known for his affinity for accounting, he road mapped his everyday living and future budgets with precise attention. Ted was an avid reader and enjoyed exploring the country with his wife in their RV. His favorite activity was interacting with his granddaughter, Miranda.
Ted is survived by a loving family including his wife of 37 years, Kathy; Stepsons: Steven McGovern (wife Karen) of Flint; David McGovern (fiancé, Shannon) of Las Vegas, Nevada; 2 daughters from a previous marriage: Teresa Hammel (wife, Stacy) of Florida; Mandy McIntosh (wife, Nancy) of Florida; Sisters: Carol Derenzo (husband Steve) of Pinole, California; Connie Jamison (husband Bob) of Largo, Florida, Janet Ruggirello (husband Mike) of Fenton; Brothers: Terry McIntosh (wife Joyce) of Montrose; Tom McIntosh (wife Theresa) of Kingston, Tennessee; sister-in-law, Norma Bowles (husband Dennis); brother-in-law, Jim Smith (wife Pam); brother in law, Ed Smith (wife Sue). Grandchildren: Brittnee Cronin of Davenport, Florida, and Miranda McGovern of Flint; numerous nephews, nieces, cousins; and a multitude of friends and acquaintances. He was preceded in death by: parents, Thedore J. and Dorothy McIntosh; aunt, Irene Bair of Birch Run; sister-in-law, Doreen Campbell (Kathy’s twin); sister-in-law, Mary Smith; and ex-wife, Delores (Golwitzer) McIntosh.
