Gary Franklin Stafford, 77, of Flint, Michigan born March 6, 1945, passed peacefully surrounded by his family and friends on April 23, 2022. Gary was survived by his loving wife of 49 years, Cathy (Gothrup) Stafford, and their five children: Eric (Brooke) Stafford, Emily (Jim) Wilson, Nick (Christy) Stafford, Matt Stafford, and Levi (Angie) Stafford. Gary is also survived by his daughters from his first marriage Cindy (Tom) Burget and Laura (Lee) Hayes. Gary also leaves his many grandchildren and great children, all of whom he loved greatly, as well as his three grand dogs. Gary is also survived by his brother, James (Paulette) Stafford, as well as his nephew and two nieces; he was preceded in death by his parents, George Stafford and Irene Lee.
Gary retired from GM/Delphi after many years of service. He had various hobbies, some of his favorites being: woodworking, watching sports (he was a big NASCAR and Detroit Tigers fan), bird watching, hunting, fishing with his brother-in-law Vern, puzzles, and playing cards. Gary was also an avid lawn care and home project enthusiast and took great pride in maintaining the home that he shared with his loving family.
Gary was a military veteran who knew what he wanted and was an exemplary hard-working provider for his family. As a testament to his work ethic Gary used to say that “Can’t…never did anything,” which meant that you must never doubt your capabilities, never stop trying and never quit.
Funeral services will take place on Friday, April 29, 2022, beginning at 11:00 a.m. at New Life Christian Fellowship, 2237 Reid Road, Grand Blanc. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that contributions be made in memory of Gary to the most deserving and incredible Hospice House of Shiawassee County, 2005 Copas Rd, Owosso, MI 48867, http://www.hospicehouseshia.org/.
